Babies are just really fragile.
Current theories include a cut-off blood flow to their brain stem from turning their head, and honey acting as a paralyzing poison on them.

That being said, the Netherlands reduced SIDS cases by a factor of 10 over other developed nations through a system of continuous education and support for parents in the months before and after birth.

I think they also gave every new family a safe place for the baby to sleep - a cardboard box.

You're getting the Netherlands confused with a nordic country there.

@Doxin@pawb.social , while it's likely a confusion, in the NL, many places do offer maternity packages. Usually it's hospitals or municipalities doing so. You can also buy them yourself, and some health insurances reimburse them.

They usually contain birth pads (like period packs but they can catch wayyyy more blood and are comfier), a mat, wipes, and so on.

I know, but the box-to-sleep-in is a fairly famous thing which afaik we don't do.
