Because the alternative is that you'll never see the models they develop. You'll hear about it in the news once something goes wrong if ever.

I don't see how the for-profit goals align with being better for everyone. The publicly available models seem to be at least 6 months behind the latest developments, and how they're built is a complete secret. The public doesn't get to see anything and it's accelerating who knows where behind the scenes.

I see how what the board did was terrible, because it was seemingly just destructive with no way back. The board being wrong doesn't mean Sam is some kind of savior. I don't see how Sam's actions/direction are pro-humanity over just a game about controlling whatever is at the other end of this.
