Happy that all 83 people who bought the game on Steam will be able to talk only positively about the game or risk being banned due to a comment being mistaken for criticism ๐Ÿ‘

Definitely didn't see this coming /s

Shame the game wasn't better. I wanted to like it, the voice acting was solid, but ultimately the combat was unpolished and feels like a early PS2 game.

I hate to say it but I feel like the devs are gonna blame the anti-woke backlash, and while that is obviously a factor, the game simply isn't that great. Needed some more time in the oven IMO, there is the soul of a good game in here.

Sounds like they hate the fact. People are calling their game out as a shit show. Also Dustborn was co-funded by the EU. Euro bros, how does it feel seeing your tax money going into this stuff?

Not in the EU (anymore, thanks tories), but I think it's fine for small indie studios to get funding through government programs, though obviously it hasn't turned out well in this case.

Without having read the article yet or knowing anything about this game: You gotta take some losses with investment. I once heard that 1 out of 20 projects in the IT sector pay off on investments, which also matches my experience working as a software engineer.

In particular, the EU is also somewhat behind in this industry. Investing into dev studios, so they can gain experience, that's what this tax money is for.
Might not be my personal highest priority, as I find AAA games boring anyways, but from a finance perspective and a social perspective, i.e. enabling people to pursue this career path, I can get behind investments like this.

https://hackertalks.com/post/4156518 my full review of the game

Dust born is pretty good, for a visual novel. They knew they were going for a super niche market segment. Their previous games have the same "reach". They have no room to complain, at least people hating on the game are actually talking about the game.
