New West is officially trying to move to being a 15 minute city but Burnaby remains a village composed entirely of sprawl - we need to get more serious as a province.

Have you seen the proposed Official Community Plan for Burnaby? I would say it could go further at densifying neighourhoods near transit, but its clear that most of the city will become zoned for apartments and townhomes.

I am not sure how this works but is the bottleneck with maximizing single lot home is at the home design plan? Donno anything about home construction but as mentioned in the article, most people with single lot home are seniors. I would suspect the problem for them is finding a contractor that they can trust or how to get funds.

This doesn't just address the design bottleneck. Since it is a standard, permitting is super fast to approve. Construction will be quicker since each home will be made of standard components. The hope is that much of the construction can be done off site with a quicker assembly done on site.

Funding may be easier to get if the are able to negotiate with the builder. Say, the original owner gets a new unit + lump sum and the builder gets to sell the other units to pay off the costs of construction.

Ah I see, thanks for the explanation. I am also guessing then if things are more standardized, it would be easier for home owners without much knowledge of construction to shop around. At least they have a standard to base on.
