Original meme is for Switch.

Have been playing Cyberpunk so far and luckily this doesn't happen often

At a school I was we used to have a mean IT teacher and one of his favorite sayings allegedly was: "Often, the error is in front of the display."

Professionals call it a "layer 8 problem"

[–] bufordt@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Or sometimes an ID10T error.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

I could be wrong, but I think that one originated in the military.

[–] XTornado@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 years ago

I usually say that the problem is between the keyboard and the chair.

[–] WhiteHotaru@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago

The error is located 20 cm in front of the keyboard.

[–] shadowSprite@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

In my computer science class this week I was having an issue with a line of code throwing an error I'd never seen before, so I took my laptop up to my instructor for help. After looking at my code for a minute she very solemnly said "oh, I know what's wrong. It's your fault." After we finished laughing I said "I know it's my fault, but please tell me why so I can fix it"

Skill issue

I tell people I bought the 512 GB version for storage, while I really bought it to avoid looking at my reflection.

[–] mihnt@kbin.social 27 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Fucking same. I can't stand glossy screens. Matte is the way to go.

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

A matte screen protector works fine for me.

[–] vlad76@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I have the 512 version and my screen is glossy...?

Oh, that might me by screen protector. I might need to replace that.

[–] Sorse@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 year ago

I bought it for the exclusive keyboard theme

[–] JayDee@lemmy.ml 29 points 2 years ago

Just slap a matte screen protector on and you're good to go!

[–] euphoric_cat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I made a template for the deck a while back

[–] baltakatei@sopuli.xyz 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How many arms does a catboy need? Honestly.

[–] euphoric_cat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 years ago

4, also its a girl

[–] Creat@discuss.tchncs.de 21 points 2 years ago (6 children)

Just pop a non-glare screen protector on it, and it's fine. It's like a 5-10 $ problem.

People buying a twice as expensive model for a slightly different screen surface are just insane if you ask me. You can also install a proper 512gig SSD for like 60€ or so to get even on storage, also takes 5 minutes.

[–] JayDee@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Well I for one am happy to fork over money to our steam overlords. I am Valve's little money pig, and I will deliver.

[–] potpotato@artemis.camp 16 points 2 years ago

M.2 2230 SSD, for anyone wondering. Just check reliability and speed of any given make/model.

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Screen protector doesn't fix ur ugly face

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 years ago

I'll just hope my laser eye surgery goes horribly wrong then.

People buying a twice as expensive model for a slightly different screen surface

Hey what’s double $399? Asking for a friend.

[–] Sotuanduso@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

Seven ninety eight.

[–] Creat@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

When I bought mine on sale it was 375€ or so. I think the 512 version with the different screen surface was 650. Is that double? No, but close enough for a side note in a casual comment. Say hi to your friend for me though, he seems nice.

[–] NewNewAccount@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

He’s insufferable. Trust me.

I ended up buying the 512 near launch. I typically don’t like screen protectors and when I bought it wasn’t quite as common to do the SSD swap. I don’t regret the decision but do recognize that I’m at a point in my life where spending a bit of extra money is worth it to avoid having to tinker.

[–] OldQWERTYbastard@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

At one point the Steam Deck design and engineering team strongly opposed installing a third party SSD for various reasons ranging from power draw to EMI. Is this still the case?

I've been a tinkerer since I was a child and have no problem tearing into electronics for the hell of it, but I also have the wisdom to listen to people who know more than I do. I'd rather not damage my expensive toy.

[–] Templa@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

Meanwhile we have the 512gb version and put a glare protector on it 💀

[–] OldQWERTYbastard@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

It's a good selling point for the 512GB model. I don't have to see how fugly I am during my loading screens.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 11 points 2 years ago

Ah, the joys of seeing Link enter a dark cave, and all you're left with is a fat man on the toilet.

[–] WeebLife@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hey everyone, here's a reminder to do chin tucks to help strengthen your neck to minimize the effects of looking down while playing. Happy gaming!

[–] JohnDClay@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] WeebLife@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

While looking forward, head in neutral position, you pull your chin straight back and down slightly. It's good for strengthening the deep neck flexors and extensors. Help with forward head posture. You can look up videos if you want more visual on how it's done.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Why does it hurt my Adam's apple so much though?

[–] WeebLife@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

It shouldn't. I'd watch some videos to make sure you're doing them right. If it still hurts, reduce how far your moving.

[–] RandomStickman@kbin.social 10 points 2 years ago

gotta love the black mirror

[–] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Just never turn the screen off, play continuously.

[–] criticon@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] skankhunt42@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 years ago

No load, only play.

[–] FrankFrankson@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago
[–] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 years ago

This is why I had to stop using face recognition to unlock my phone.

[–] HubertManne@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

compared to my laptop and high end fire tablet it barely reflects.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 4 points 2 years ago

The fix is to just stop being ugly.

[–] AphoticDev@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 years ago

Grab yourself a etched tempered glass screen protector. They'll cost you about $15 for a two pack.

[–] Lettuceeatlettuce@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 years ago

The Deck can save you from many things...but it can't save you from yourself...
