Given that W. E. B. du Bois died in 1963 and the state of the planet today, it appears that this quote unfortunately made no impact whatsoever on society..

Depends on the country, or how big a picture you're taking. Dubois didn't have much hope for the US, and he placed most of his hopes for the future in a union of African states, and PRC and USSR of course.

So far it looks like the best results have come from the PRC but I feel like we occasionally get bits of good news out of African states that give me hope for the future. PRC has done a pretty good job avoiding the pitfalls of potential stagnation too.
