“BD” refers to Franco-Belgian comics, but let's open things up to include ALL Euro comics and GN's. Euro-style work from around the world is also welcome!

* BD = "Bandes dessinées"
* BDT = Bedetheque
* GN = graphic novel
* LBK = Lambiek
* LC = "Ligne claire"

I'm originally from Uruguay and I remember seeing some of his books at a convention at some point and loving his art! I think I have at least two or three of his books in boxes somewhere in Uruguay. Awesome stuff!

Excellent! I'd not seen this one before. I love Varela's art style, and did a review of his Human book here.

Anyway, thanks for posting this. You know the "plus sign" in our name has an extra meaning. From the FAQ:

While BD might be the ‘core’ of European comics, Franco-Belgian comics are only part of the whole Euro comics experience. For example, there’s British (Pat Mills, Bryan Talbot, Alan Moore), Spanish (Paco Roca, Segura y Ortiz), Italian (Manuele Fior, Milo Manara, Hugo Pratt), German (Mawil, Matthias Schultheiss), Polish (Grzegorz Rosiński, Makuszynski, Walentynowicz), Dutch (Kolk, Wit, Kuijpers, Seele) and many other terrific Euro comics creators worth a look. I’d even like to expand that to ‘BD-style’ comics from around the world, such as Alejandro Jodorowsky from Chile, plus Breccia, Noé & Giménez from Argentina.

Whoops, I didn't know Varela was Argentinian. I should probably add him to the text!

Thanks for let me know. Glad other big artist outside Europe fit in this delightful community as BD style.
Ahhhhh Breccia, both father and son were and are two master artist that influenced so many around the world.
I will take the opportunity and mention another local “monster” from those golden times: Carlos Nine.
And btw I will gladly check your article about Varela .

Okay, I've added Varela and Carlos Nine to the list of major Argentinian artists to our FAQ. Seriously-- how could I forget Carlos Nine? (yo soy idiooota)
