Saudi Arabia 2034 $600 billion

[–] Kogie13@alien.top 2 points 1 year ago

And now the World Cup will have 48 teams, which means more matches, which means more weeks of the tournament, which means more money. I remember the idea of the World Cup occurring every two years being floated around and it wouldn’t surprise me if that ends up happening. I feel like greed is going to end up killing this sport, especially the competitiveness of it

Qatar WC proved me wrong and was the best WC in recent memory but a winter World Cup has given rise number of injuries so if FIFA Keeps off making money they have no motivation to change, this winter work cup may become more common.

[–] mg10pp@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Ah, maybe he was predicting where they will play next season 🤷‍♂️

[–] chloezinha77@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

São Paulo FC clearly

[–] luigitheplumber@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don't think it's fair to conflate the expansion of the tournament with a hypothetical increase in frequency. While both bring in more money, the former does have sporting value and occasional expansion is healthy, even if it does have downside. The frequency however, should not be altered and is a pure cashgrab

[–] ghengilhar@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I think if they push that through that’s the straw that breaks the camels back and ends FIFA.

[–] THY96@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

2026 gonna be so interesting when they come to the states

Noooooo.

No wayyy.

[–] Hi_ilove_football5@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That Messi final really paid them handsomely.

[–] DexM23@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

So, the most controversal ones, you know people want to boykott where the best by far revenue wise?

[–] Hi_ilove_football5@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Where there is a lot of money there is corruption.

[–] Mend35@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

2 world cups could fund a Manchester United takeover!

[–] ckfks@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That's why there won't be equal pay for women in football

All i'm getting from this is that Brazil needs to step up its bribes game.

[–] yoki01@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The cash must flow.

[–] TheLimeyLemmon@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Sepp Blatter used to call FIFA a Non-Profit

[–] No_Nothing101@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Wonder how much of that money has been bribe.

[–] TheUltimateScotsman@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

So how were they making so much more money in non WC years prior to 2014?

[–] evenout@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

what happened in 2011-2013 vs. 2015-2017 that made those gap years much less profitable for them?

[–] Mulderre91@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Remember.

They are a NON-PROFIT ORGANISATION.

This money is for water leaks in his headquarters.

[–] Void_Hound@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That's why the bastards wanted to make it biennial, and they will try again, harder. And that stupid club world cup, that's even dumber than this one. Intercontinental was what should have always been

[–] anpife@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We all know the next step they are gonna try to take.

[–] Begbie13@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

And the fact is that I'd prefer a Serie D match than a WC one

[–] Mulderre91@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They have the GOAL programme, which helps those less powerful nations to have modern infrastructure...

and helps some heads of state to have a photo with mr Infantino. All in all, a way to have another vote.

[–] BertEnErnie123@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

But revenue normally doesn't include operating costs right?

[–] GohSooHowe@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Remember when people say Qatar WC will be boycotted and no one will watch it. Welp!

[–] BertEnErnie123@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

And now imagine how much money goes around under the table. Fuck fifa

2020 was obviously a write-off year, but it's striking how poorly it did 2015-2017. Maybe it has to do with all the trials.

[–] 849023ie8932j@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

World Cup's are rare and special, that's why they do amazingly well. Due to the iconic status of the tournament. It speaks to peoples imagination. It's filled with wonder. That's why it also makes a lot of money.

Okay lets do it every single year to rinse the money out of it. If it makes us so much money bags every 4 years, we should maximize those profits!!

Now the World Cup isn't as special anymore and eventually won't make as much money.

[–] trashboatfourtwenty@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The history of the organization screams this, yes

[–] atropicalpenguin@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Damm, if extraordinary meetings make a dent in your budget then maybe you shouldn't order lobster.

[–] chloezinha77@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

i do the same with f1

[–] anpife@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] JPA-3@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

when will we see them "suggesting" a WC every 2 years?

[–] ThunderStella@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Eventually the players will not have a summer off.

At the end of every season will be a few weeks of a break, then prepping for the next tournament, then a few weeks break followed by pre season.

[–] ThunderStella@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Infantino following in the footsteps of Blatter

[–] Stratozky@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

wasnt the matches free? It was free in Turkey

[–] No_Cover_6087@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

wow wc 2016 made no money at all

[–] mg10pp@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I think his team it's Cesena (an Italian team)

[–] SupahBlah@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

UEFA generally are richer than FIFA (Champions League) that's why FIFA are pushing for a Club World Cup.

[–] JKKIDD231@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

So they will make the big cash cow in Saudi 2034. No way they break the Qatar numbers till then

[–] 849023ie8932j@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

A lot of people will keep watching. But it would really be less special and less watched probably. Now every 4 years even a lot of Americans watch it and its something special. If its on tv each year, idk if they would care as much

[–] Boiledg@alien.top 0 points 1 year ago

This is good news. I hope fifa continues to make more money. The richer fifa is the better the sport will be.
