This goal gives me El Clásico vibes.

[–] wog_ins@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

so are they winning the Copa again? lol CR fans are going to be in hell if Messi is again called for BDO after he won his 8th

[–] AP10@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Was that a dummy from Julian? What a baller.

[–] areopagitic@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

yes for sure you can see he pulls out of the shot and protects the ball so it gets to the goat

[–] Ficnkle@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] ash_catches_em_all@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The commentator really had the orgasm of his life damn

[–] arsenal_is_best@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Did he ask the other player to leave the ball for him or that player missed the shot?

[–] Torimas@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Proper faint. It's possible he called it and Alvarez heard.

[–] DaIubhasa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hat trick loading for Lord GOAT

[–] youngbosnia@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

actually got chills watching that live

[–] FriendlyGhost08@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He still needs one more goal contribution to equal Soteldo's night. We'll see who's the GOAT then

[–] repsaj33@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Messi has scored this goal with that exact shot from that same spot so many times and it’s just as good every time

don't spoil our cheat code.

[–] mdg-ign@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Seriously, how is every keeper still late to make the save, did he ever shoot it into the other corner from that position?

[–] Marlboro_tr909@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Didn’t his first goal in this game end with him finishing into the far top corner, from a similar build up??

[–] lipek90@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Go watch Onana and you'll soon get an answer to why keepers shouldn't be doing what you're suggesting

[–] jujuismynamekinda@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Do you know how wide a football goal is? :D
With that speed and precision he would have to move beforehand, which would leave the other side completely open and would look beyond stupid since Messi of course can shoot to the other side too (which he often did).

Its not that Messi and Robben and others always do the same move and every opposition is dumb for not defending. Its the precision and speed that makes it undefendable.

[–] PsychologicalFan7749@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

also the goalkeepers weight is usually on his left foot as he is naturally moving towards that direction as the play comes from wide to central. really clever by messi and really hard to get a good sharp dive to your right side.

[–] jujuismynamekinda@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

yessss, thats very important. Great analysis! Same reason why they teach you to head against the direction the goalie is coming from. You catch them on the wrong foot, meaning they have to take an extra step

This one was incredibly difficult to react to. It looked like the first guy would shoot (can’t see who it is in this clip), then it looked like Alvarez would shoot but he left it with a dummy, then Messi pulls the trigger in a split second from a position right next to Alvarez. No chance for the keeper to read that play.

[–] jeevesyboi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I saw your comment and immediately knew the style of goal

[–] Jack_of_all-shades@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just saw the top comment and the world same , I knew which kind of goal it would be. No matter who the player assisting, Messi scores

[–] spraypaint2311@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just discovered that Argentina is playing atm. Thought let me check r/soccer if there's maybe a Messi goal and there's 2. Classic.

[–] adeckz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Saw one a few minutes ago and was not surprised he popped up again, unbelievable player

[–] nyse125@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

this mf dont miss

[–] AleArg99@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Perdón Perú, somos inevitables

[–] PM_ME_YOUR_SILLY_POO@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I clicked on Peru vs Argentina a few hours ago and it had a Messi hattrick. I went to look at highlights but there were none, because it hadnt started??? Now he just needs one more goal for the Hatty. Did i accidentally see the leaked script before it started.

[–] pinpinbo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Old Messi is still scoring but younger Neymar got hurt again.

[–] irazzleandazzle@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He could easily still play in europe

[–] AbCi16@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's smart to leave with some gas in the tank rather than being completely exhausted. Ronaldo faced something similar in 2022. Fast forward to 2023, and he got back in the shape. It is wise to reduce intemsity with age.

[–] TimingEzaBitch@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Good awareness from Julian. Although what likely happened is he definitely pump faked with the intention of turning and shooting but as he was mid turn, Messi yelled "Que miras bobo ?" and took the ball from Julian.

[–] theaguia@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

celebrating the Ballon d'or in style

[–] Frequent-Barnacle602@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Scaloni took advantage of halftime to go to the civil registry and put that playful tail in his name

[–] theaguia@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

the assist was great too

[–] LowSnow2500@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Im changing my last name to Messi and naming my future son Lionel

[–] longchongwong@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Number 10, Can you do something for me

[–] trappuccino92@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yea Messi is great and all but did Enzo just make a run off the last man?!?! 🤣

[–] KidGoku1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Could you imagine Mbappe doing this for a teammate? Just the thought of it made me lol.

Props to Julian Alvarez. Football is beautiful because of unselfish players like him. At least for me.

[–] daboatfromupnorth@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Screw a loan back to Europe, If a 4 months break due to MLS offseason is what he needs so he can stay fresh then so be it. I’m trynna watch this guy forever lol

[–] wavepapi32@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He saw that Ronaldo is top goalscorer didn't he?

[–] maxiperalta54@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

THE ABSOLUTE FUCKING GOAT!

[–] perhapsasinner@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That's classic Messi goal

[–] alwaysoverneverunder@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Dude's a fucking walking cheat code

[–] hammertown87@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m convinced he sold his soul to the devil to be the worlds best footballer ever.

The catch is he always has to play or he will die.

Why else is he bothering going to MLS or playing fucking Peru when he’s won the World Cup and should let the next gen get playing minutes.
