Why?
Because it's had stellar Wayland streaming support (with audio) for somewhere around 2 years at this point, is still way better in that regard than native Discord, and has a thriving plugin suite that lets you enjoy features the native app will never allow.
I've had some luck with vesktop's streaming but it just doesn't work for me half the time and I have to fully restart it to fix it. I'll go through the flow and click to start streaming and nothing will happen. With the latest update for regular discord it will always stream but has had issues with switching windows/audio not always working.
Guess we'll get there eventually.
Switching Windows never works for me. When the audio does not work, I can always fix it by double toggeling the audio button/checkbox.
I've been doing this from Firefox forever...
But "with audio" is actually a new feature. Previously I was manually sending the audio through my voice channel which worked pretty well but it would be nice to have a separate stream for the streaming audio.
Probably not enough for me to install the spyware though, I'll keep using Discord via Firefox.
Why do you consider discord as spyware?
Closed-source software that sends home tons of information about your system without consent. All communication accessible to a VC funded company that has huge pressure to make as much money as possible.
It's been a thing for a while with rolling distros, let's hope the release based ones ship it and their the flatpak issues so most users can enjoy sharing the screen with friends soon.
It still says "audio capture might not be available" for me. Still on vesktop regardless because of various other improvements and features.
