Down 2-1 in a five game series vs. the Aces, the Liberty had a huge chance to win a ring after a series of Aces injuries. In a one point loss, Stewart made just 3 of 17 shots from the field. Are there any comparable examples from history?

As soon as they said they were the best team in NY, you knew how it was going to end up.

WNBA season was fun asf, hopefully womens CBB can keep up the momentum. Sure it will with Caitlyn and Reese, plus Bueckers is coming back

Kenyon Martin was not a superstar 💀

[–] AlphakirA@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He wasn't, but he was the #1 pick a couple years prior and was the #2 option on a Finals team. Seems to fit OPs question.

game is growing ❤️ the WNBA finally getting superstar slander threads is unironically a sign of progress and nice to see

We can hate in a more tangible way now!

Also, happy cake day.

Kobe went 6-19, 8-21, and 7-22 in games 4, 5 and 6 of the 2008 finals against Boston.

LeBron 2011

Playing DPOY and arguably the best defender in women’s history can do that but yeah I agree with most comments she’s been bad all playoffs

Probably, but I ain't ever watching wnba

Just from looking at the numbers, I'd say Jayson Tatum in 2022 has a shot at this. He's not an mvp or anything but 2022 was the first year he could build that rep but ended with a 6/18 game and 5TOs, in a series he played trash when they needed him to play his best.

Besides Jayson there's the 84 Finals with Magic Johnson becoming Tragic and his terrible shooting numbers and insane turnovers.

I can't add the entirety of Patrick Ewing's 94 Finals because he was smothered by Hakeem's defense all series.

The 04 Lakers had a pretty horrendous Kobe series and final game 7-21 when Shaq played well enough.

Now for the real KNOCKOUT, closest thing to the scenario you mentioned that I immediately thought of. LeBron in the 07 Finals vs Spurs. The Spurs won game 4 by ONE point, Duncan went 4-15 and 6TOs and Lebron went 10-30 from the field and 2-6FT and 6TOs.

Dennis Johnson (Sonics) went 0-14 in Game 7 on the 1978 NBA Finals, losing to the Bullets by only 6 points. That’s pretty awful.

The next year he bounced back, Sonics beat the Bullets in the 1979 Finals and DJ was Finals MVP. He played a few seasons in Phoenix after that before finally getting traded to Celtics, and rest is history.

DJ was a warrior, by the way, just looked at his basketball reference. He never played fewer than 72 games in a season, and that was in his second to last year in the league.

He played a few seasons in Phoenix after that

DJ is the reason I'm a Suns fan.

LeBron literally quit giving effort while his team was down.

It was hilarious!

[–] Giannis1995@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Down 2-0 in the ECF Jordan dropped a 3/18 atrocity against the Knicks in 1993. The Bulls won so nobody talks about it but it was worse of a performance than whatever Harden has ever done lol

Magic ‘Tragic’ Johnson’s choke in 1984 could be considered

[–] titus7007@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Embiid last year

[–] Wavepops@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes there’s been a number of these throughout the era. Tragic Johnson, David Robinson and Ewing getting cooked by Hakeem, bron vs the mavericks, Kobe vs the pistons, but breanna really struggled to create her own offense, I know she always been a person who scored within the flow but damn

[–] 2cantCmePac@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

John Starks against the rockets in the 93-94 finals. He had a clunker in game 7 and we squeaked out that win

[–] Original-Common-7010@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Ewing and malone

[–] Onlyfurrcomments@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Who else didn't know there was a finals series happening

[–] TheMeccaNYC@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We’re not talking about John Starks even though he was a STAR 😊

That man is the nicest person you will ever meet no John Starks slander will be allowed

[–] skywalkerRCP@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Kobe 6/24 was so close.

[–] LetsGoGameCrocks@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Worth pointing out this isn’t just some wnba superstar - she’s the reigning MVP
