Hoping to get a nice watch as gift. All kid sized watches seem to be junk or have cartoons on them. Hoping for analog face, nice band (probably leather) and not to spend over $75 but could go to $150

Any help appreciated

I got my 8 year old a g shock ga2100. It’s a great size for him.

I’m jealous, will be buying one for me soon too

I would think of any gshock babyg. More or less affordable, solid.

Came here to say this

There are a couple of lorusor alba field watches that are small and decent.

Also the new casio mdv10 is small and looks decent.

The invicta vintage (line) 37071 is small and classy.

The Shanghai 8120 is a small mechanical (handwind only) watch and very affordable (you can find it on aliexpress).

Escapement time king seiko homage in 35mm is another option.

Take a look at the Casio Baby G BGA 240-1A. It's digital and analog. The Baby G shocks are considerably smaller than the regular G shocks.

In terms of brands in your price point and with smaller size options:

Timex

Casio

Swiss Military - Their ladies models will work for a boy, they are beautiful and contemporary design, not feminine.

I would probably say a perfect starter watch then would be an entry level Seiko 5, such as the SNK375. This particular model has some cool red accent color and is smaller at 36mm, so it would probably fit and wear well enough. However there are so many Seiko 5 models to choose from. You can find an abundant amount of them on Amazon for under $150. The only thing to note is that many come by default on a metal bracelet. With a quick YouTube search, however you can fairly easily change the bracelet for a basic >$20 leather strap. Just make the sure to find out what the lug width of the watch is and buy a strap with the same size (ex. Lug width is 18mm, but an 18mm wide strap)

Check out Blok Watch. My son also loves his Shark watch, which seem to be back in style and rather trendy among kids again.

[–] jedediahl3land@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Came here to say this about Blok Watches. They are nice, not quite G-shock level tough but seem more solid than a Flik Flak.

I just bought one for kid's upcoming ninth birthday. They're great for teaching kids how to tell time bc they make the hour hand less ambiguous. Also they had a new set of models with lume on them and she loooooooves the lume on my watches so she's going to be stoked.

In addition to the Casio suggestions, could consider a Swatch. They’re pretty cool and the “ladies” options would be a good size for a kid’s wrist.

When I was in middle school, GShocks were super popular and a bit of a status symbol. So I’d recommend going that route. Lots of kids wore watches way too large for them as well so I wouldn’t worry too much if it’s a bit large. Personally I was very not cool and loved my Timex Ironmans haha

Check out Analog BABY-G by Casio. A smaller version of G-Shock. Beautifull, reliable, affordable.

At one point I got my kids these from the Swatch store.

However, my all time favorite analog is the Casio MRW-200H. My kids wear it as do it. Gets beat up a TON and still working perfectly.

I'd definitely suggest a Lorus

https://www.loruswatches.com/Products/Kids

Stand up to a decent amount of daily wear, pricewise definitely in the "doesn't matter too much if lost/broken" which you've got to consider with kids.

And until I checked just now, I didn't realise how much of a range they actually have for kids watches.

[–] BadMr_Frosty@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I bought my 9 y/o a casio f91w. He loves it, perfect size and functional. He loves using the stopwatch function, times all sorts of random things.

[–] LegendaryCichlid@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Maybe he would like a cartoon on his watch? Idk if kids value the same types of aesthetics we do.

[–] Both_Cryptographer_8@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

A 9 Yr old won't care about brands. Take them out, let them pick. If they want the one with a cartoon face that's the one they'll always love and remember when they're older. Let them choose and create their memory. Don't let them pick something they think you like.

I’d go with a Nautilus

[–] Sn000ps@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

A smaller timex is the best option imo

[–] sockpuppetinasock@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Flik Flak is probably the best idea. Basically Swatch for kids. They are pretty tough and have a wide variety of styles.

Look at women's watches, there are several that are just smaller versions of classic styles. For example Timex markets the Expedition Field Mini as a women's watch, but it's also good for a kid who wants a grown up looking field watch.

Freestyle shark, they have kids sizes and patterns… and they can’t break them. My kids love them

[–] TDIMike@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

My 8 year old just bought himself a Casio MQ24-7B2. Super thin, simple dial and perfect size, plus it was only about 17 bucks.

A classic g-shock or a seiko on a nato if you think he’s responsible

[–] han_solex@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Tough to beat a gShock Mini GMN-50 for a small analog kids watch
