Basically the title. Replace Murray with Trae. Contracts stay the same. Are the Nuggets better or worse now? I’m talking about Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks by the way

I think they would be worse by a decent amount.

The two man game of Jokic and Murray has grown and developed over years. While I do think Jokic can play along side anyone I don’t think that is true of Trae. Trae has never played with a player like Jokic and I think there would be a lot lot of growing pains with that duo.

While Murray isn’t a great or even a good defender I would say he is net neutral that is still leagues better than Young. Murray is a really strong and athletic 6’4 player. That size really does make a difference on how bad of a defender you can be. Murray is also a great rebounder. We saw in the Miami series especially how big of a bonus having the smaller player in your lineup be 6’4. Taking Murray out and putting Young makes them a terrible defensive team.

Sure Young is the player I would want as my number one option out of the two. But as a number two I don’t think you can do much better than Murray.

Worse. Jamal is more well rounded. The nuggets don’t need more scoring

Oh man yall still dogging ice trae lol i love jamal and prilly woukd take him still based in fit but trae even with bad D brings intangibles and some interesting different kind of offensive dynamic. Remember trae is not bad at passing either hes killed some doubles

Trae is overrated. I’m tired of pretending he’s not.

Truly can’t believe how many people are saying “worse”. You stagger most of Jokic and Trae’s minutes, you have an (even more) unstoppable force.

[–] JokMackRant@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Higher floor, lower ceiling. They are probably a better regular season team. I don’t think that sniffs a finals though.

If you replaced Trae with Jamal would the Hawks get better or worse?

Pretty sure Trae is a better #1 option than Jamal but Jamal is probably a better #2 option.

Murray and jokic have an incredible 2 man game between them and a different level of chemistry.

It’a possible trae could also have that but you can’t just assume it.

Worse. Jokic is the game manager. And he’s really good at playing that role. No reason to clog it up and step on each others toes.

Murray is better off the ball but the non Joker minutes would be infinitely better with Trae.

Damn the Trae disrespect in this sub is hilarious 😂 😃 😄 😁

Jokic would break that little man over his knee after five games.

Offball skills so underrated by casual fans

[–] Ct2kKB24@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Playmaking is underrated by causal fans. Also who is trae supposed to play off ball too? He’s the only elite play maker on the team and has been for years.

That's kooky talk

[–] 2020IsANightmare@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Worse.

Period. But, especially when you factor in known chemistry. Title-winning chemistry.

But, this question really does highlight Young's true potential as a franchise changer.

As far as a team he's on being taken seriously, his absolute max ceiling is being the #2 with a Joker or Giannis. Absolute best players on the league. Most realistic role for a serious team would be as a #3/sometimes #4 option. Like Bosh was in Miami or Green was in GS, for instance.

Trae young with no other stars made the conference finals…

This is such a bad nephew take you should feel embarrassed

[–] theblackyeti@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Absolutely worse

[–] Interesting-Test180@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Looool is that a question

[–] wrexy_619@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The Winter King will come for you all

Ice Trae season

[–] PooperJackson@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Their defense gets even worse and their offense doesn't get any better so meh.

[–] emploaf@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Definitely much worse, Murray does not rely on having the ball as much as Trae does, is a better shooter than Trae, and is an underrated defensive player

[–] shazam482@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Strongly suggest you read this article. It goes into a lot more detail regarding the philosophy behind Denver's roster construction.

To answer your question though. Trae would make them significantly worse because;

  • He's undersized

  • Doesn't have an off ball game

  • Isn't a good movement shooter

Denver's roster construction focuses entirely on Jokic. All of those x4 guys are perfect complements to his skillset, and offset his weaknesses

[–] likesexonlycheaper@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The season really needs to start

[–] mercfan3@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Worse

Murray fits much better with Jokic than Trae Young does.

[–] JapaneseToiletGhost@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Worse. Jokic and Murray's two man game is exceptional

[–] Ct2kKB24@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They get way better. Everyone saying “trae young is worse off ball” like he doesn’t have to create 99% of the hawks offense. Murray has the benefit of playing off ball because of Jokic.

Also you can have more than 1 elite playmaker on the floor at a time and the offense would be insane. It’s why bron liked having rondo so much, having that sort of passing iq opens up the floor more and takes pressure off of you to do everything.

Trae young is criminally underrated here. Dudes a top 3 passer and lob threat, you put him on the nuggets and they become legit dynasty not just contenders

[–] Lasvious@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Worse. Much much worse.

[–] bananacuster@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What if you replaced a really good player with a pretty bad one? I think theyd get worse.

[–] treeslip@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Trae Young hangs around the half way line when he doesn't have the ball and gets targeted on defense, Murray is good with or without the ball, gets targeted less on defense and already has good chemistry and is more than capable when it comes to the playoffs. I'll take Murray, Trae may work but if it's not broke don't fix it.
