Really forgot how much r/nba hates trae young

Extending this question to a straight-up Trae for Jamal trade: both teams are worse. Murray is probably not as good a first option for a team like the Hawks and Trae is not as good a second option for a team that already has Jokic.

This question is really really really really dumb

There's nothing Trae does better than Jamal other than probably passing. And even then Jamal averaged 10apg in the finals.

Trae ain’t leading a team deep in the playoffs

They’d be worse bc Trae as a second option brings means that cone defense is even more of a problem

Jamal is bigger, less inconsistent on the defensive side, a better off ball player next to Jokic because of his years playing with him, a tough shot maker, a playoff riser, and a solid playmaker.

Trae is nice don’t get me wrong. He may be the better floor general and 1st option between the 2 but for this question alone, you gotta go with Murray.

Ignoring this comp between Murray and Trae for a second why is it a consensus in this sub that Trae can’t play offball? I’ve said it multiple times when talking about Trae or even guys like Luka and Harden why should they play off ball when their secondary guys have no been better offensive engines than them?

Steph would not be Steph without draymond running the offense allowing him to run and create havoc on offense similar to how much Jokic helps get Murray and others going in that system. The hawks have not had someone equal to Trae in terms of offense and Dejounte is not the secondary playmaker to step up and run the offense for Trae to be off ball like draymond and Jokic are

Trae is the better player but that doesn’t mean it’ll work as a team. Jamal is like a perfect fit with Jokic whereas Trae might take away a little bit of what makes Jokic the player he is

No Trae Young team will ever have two players with triple doubles the same night. Or be in the finals.

Trae can hold the ball and then Jokic can throw Trae at the rim

Worse. Much worse Trae Young is in many ways a better basketball player than Jamal Murray, but that's because his main strength is you can give him the ball run a million pick and rolls and he can run your entire offense.

This is not a good way to play when Jokic is on your team, and Murray is also clearly better on defense.

Especially because Trae works best with a roll lob threat, which is like the only thing Jokic can't do on offense. It's literally the worst star player in the keague to pair with Jokic

Trae Young is the worst fitting player I could see Jokic winning a championship with. You can copy and paste that to Luka or prime James Harden.

Luka has traits that would fit better next to Jokic than Trae. Mostly rebounding ability and size in general. It’s more realistic Luka can change his game to play next to Jokic than Trae Young.

Trae’s game is a weird mix of Stephen Curry, Steve Nash, and Stephon Marbury. The triangle seems to sit more between Marbury and Curry lately. Which isn’t really a compliment.

Yet another post where Trae Young is extremely overrated. This sub loves the guy and don’t get why.

People who've said they don't want the ball out of Joker's hands as if Trae isn't himself statistically one of the best PnR players...that doesn't really make sense but I do agree that the Nuggets would be worse in large part because Trae is way more exploitable defensively. Offensively, the fit would work theoretically.

Joker would probably initiate a little less with Trae but his touches overall wouldn't go down appreciably.
