Just a backstory.

I am trying to get into watches. I dont have much knowledge. I’ve picked up a couple of seikos and im in love with them. I got gifted this Omega moonswatch, and its a beautiful timepiece.

Is there something I need to know about this watch? What is your guys opinion on this particular timepiece. Also, do you recommend if i change the strap?

Hopefully the marriage lasts longer than the watch will!

Good first piece

I've been trying to get one. Looks nice. Is it nice and light?

This watch is polarising but I think it’s a good start and a dangerous slippery slope into years of obsession 😂

[–] BritishBoyRZ@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I tried it in person and was highly underwhelmed.

Looked and felt like a McDonald's happy meal toy

Seriously slippery

I am ready to slip and fall into the obsession, very ready!

It's a marketing marvel.

It allows people who can't afford an Omega to feel part of the brand, without hurting Omega's customer or the brand (because you'll never ever see this watch in steel : the purpose being to immediately and without any doubt know it's a Swatch, and not an Omega).

Better'n some darn ring. That's for sure!

Congrats on the watch and the engagement! This is a cool, fun watch. If you are very new to watches, you should look into the history of the Speedmaster, if you aren’t already aware. My wife got me one of these (MoonSwatch) for my birthday this year and I like it. A Speedmaster is likely out of my budget for the near future, but this does somewhat scratch that itch. I put it on a single pass black nato strap and I think it looks and wears much better this way. Congrats again and hope this furthers your interest in watches!

Show how it looks now please

[–] Vegetable-Ad-9324@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Thank you so much. I am loving the watch so far. It is a very light weight watch, which I honestly very like. It doesn’t «feel» like its on my wrist, but the presence is there. Also. i would love to see a picture of yours with the black nato strap on it.

Change the strap and put in on a nice leather strap

[–] jang-gun@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

gotta disagree with this. I think a real speedy looks great on a leather strap, especially a rally strap. but the bioceramic (plastic) just doesn't work as well with leather. I think it looks great on the current nato.

If anything, I'd suggest flipping the nato the other way so that the fold back is on the outside.

[–] CheGuevarasRolex@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Barton makes a two-piece faux-nato that I really like on mine.

[–] jang-gun@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah not for me

[–] evolvie@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I feel like the case looks so plasticky in this colorway that the leather is really off

[–] asli_bob@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The leather itself is really soft and nice. The watch is very light and compact. Yes the watch is plastic, but the two together feel and look fantastic overall. I'm very happy with it. The grey on grey is a nice addition to the moon shtick.

[–] evolvie@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I have the Mercury so I know the watch! And I’m sure the strap is quite nice. To each their own… enjoy my friend!

[–] frzx1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Which Casio is that?

We all love and hate it at the same time.

[–] Vegetable-Ad-9324@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Im loving it so far, just waiting to hate it hahahah jk

[–] MurkySoil4263@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It's a great watch to be gifted in my opinion. It's fun, and not particularly expensive. IMO watch tastes are a bit personal and I would rather someone not spend alot of money on a watch I may not like. The moonswatch is nice enough to wear often but it's not so expensive you feel obligated too. If that makes sense

[–] Vegetable-Ad-9324@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

A watch is not just a watch. Some have sentimental values to it, and some have a great history behind them.

[–] dannymurz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Right and this one doesn't. It's a marketing hype piece.

[–] dankvaderr7@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Don’t listen to the haters. It’s a cool, fun, and casual watch. I have the same one 🤷🏽‍♂️

[–] Vegetable-Ad-9324@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Thank you for your comment, appreciate it🫱🏾‍🫲🏽. Which was is good and bad is a subjective topic. Everyone has their preferences. Love all watches!

In the midst of the Apollo 13 crisis, the Omega Speedmaster emerged as an unexpected hero. When the spacecraft's onboard systems failed, astronauts relied on their Speedmasters to time engine burns with precision. This unanticipated role showcased the watch's remarkable accuracy under pressure, demonstrating its crucial contribution to safely navigating the crippled spacecraft back to Earth. The Omega Speedmaster, often known as the "Moonwatch," further solidified its legacy as an iconic symbol of human space exploration, forever etching its name in the history of manned space missions. 🌕🚀🕒

[–] StanS2@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Except the OP got a Moonswatch.

[–] MichaelXennial@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I’ll buy it from you if you don’t want it! It’s the only wearable moonswatch imo, otherwise just a fun idea. I think it looks fantastic. I do think those straps were kind of meant to be changed. Damn, enjoy it and appreciate the giver.

Thank you so much!

Personally, I wouldn't give someone a watch that, when it breaks in a couple of years, won't be fixable.

Wow this is a beauty!

[–] Tillman_Fertitta@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not trying to be rude but what do you mean "trying to get into watches"

[–] Vegetable-Ad-9324@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

With this I mean I want to seek more knowledge about watches, develop a enthuiastic interest and just generally learn more about all the different time pieces. I look at watches as artwork.

[–] BadWowDoge@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I have the same one. It’s a fun watch.

[–] Vegetable-Ad-9324@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I just need to get a couple of additional watches too, so I can change in between haha. Enjoy your watches!

[–] PruWaters@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I love my Pluto. It’s super light and fun.

[–] Vegetable-Ad-9324@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It is a perfect watch for everyday use! It is light which makes it very comfortable! It doesnt feel like its there, but it still has a presence on your wrist.

[–] parkADV@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

That’s a great gift! I tried one on and didn’t like it for myself, but I still think they’re a neat watch that looks great. Try it on a few different straps - swapping them between straps is one of my favourite things about watches!
