I always struggled with the corner shots because I have less of a spacial reference with the side of the backboard facing me. Shooting from the top of the key should be much easier, no? I always had the most success with the 45 degree angle one, right between the key and the corner. Maybe that's just me though.

Besides being closer and cozier I find that when shooting from the corner the backboard helps my eyes triangulate and calculate the distance really well.

Gypsy magic

Oh right because your experience explains the universe.

Good lord some humans can’t see outside their own heads.

A good shooter has different considerations than what you're stating. Steph can shoot with his eyes closed just from muscle memory. The backboard is invisible to them. They know exactly how a normal 3 and corner 3 feel and the corner is more likely to go in because it's closer

A lot of courts don't use NBA 3 ime, but the ones from the wing should be farther than the ones from the corner. distance is usually the obvious answer

but imo a really big thing is that it's a shot that's really easy to practice and ingrain in muscle memory and easy to put into use. you're not clogging the court for your ball handler by sitting at the wing, and it's usually a good default place to slot yourself if you don't know what to do. the motion of catching a pass and shooting is easily repeatable and there's way less variance in the shot as a result

Unrelated but I would be interested in seeing what would happen to the game if they backup the 3 point line and eliminate the corner 3

At the NBA level? Because they are probably 20x better at the worst than we are, firstly.

….because it’s a shorter distance. Jesus, has no one here actually played ball themselves?

Its closer but also normally wide open if I am not mistaken. Its normally outside of the play furthest from the top and center. I look at it like its the edge of the map. Fast breaks your taught to run there because it spreads the floor.

For me it's easier indoors, soon as I get outdoors though I hate shooting from the corner. All I see are trees and shit behind a net-less hoop at my local courts and it's so hard to see.

While it is shorter, thats not the reason. Its the hardest place for the D to rotate to.

Why then did shooting % go up when the made the 3pt line shorter in the 90s. The reality is, shorter distance higher %. That pretty clear in the data.

Can you show that wide open 3pt shots from top of key and corner have the same %? Should be easy to look up.

i find it harder too - no backboard
