I never hated, but disliked the corners, something about depth perception or something, much prefer wing or at top

Game analysis, highlights and everything else that is happening in the NBA.
Plus the backboard will never bail you out on a corner 3 unless the ball takes a crazy bounce
Like kawhi’s shot. I’ve never seen a ball bounce so much before going in.
That’s still one of the most exciting plays in the NBA that I’ve ever seen. It’s not the most athletic or skillful but the timing, the crowd, the circumstances.. absolutely insane.
There’s this guy in my rec league that banks everything. Corner 3s included
Have you ever considered the possibility that you just suck?
It's the cupcake 3, so short
same, i also struggle with corner 3s, but because i rely on the backboard a lot
as in you bank your 3s or you need to see the backboard to aim?
yeah lol was taught to look at the backboard since i started playing and it stuck to me since, i never had proper training anyway just played in parks
Not sure if you care for advice but aiming for either front or back rim, whichever you prefer, would help a lot
I aim at the bottom of the net. Helps arc my shot
Yeah, its how my eyes gauge distance
Eyes on a rim net ringlet thingy
My hs coach said to aim for the back of the rim, helped with my freethrows
On top of the shorter distance and what not already mentioned; it also limits the amount of court you need to be aware of.
In the corner you will only have a defender come from in front or from one side, as opposed to 360 degrees around you if you’re at the top of the key
Yeah the cozy factor is underrated.
Cuts both ways. You loose a lane to drive and pass into.
get me the ball at a rustic cottage
Closer and spreads the floor.
I don't know if it's easier during solo shooting practice, but in a game it is because of many factors such as always being a catch and shoot shot, only having to worry about defenders from one side, most likely being wide open, and of course being slightly closer
On top of what everyone else has said, for me the end line helps give me a consistency reference
- A. It is the closest
- B. "I always struggled", "I always had" ... unless I'm missing something, you are not a professional basketball player so your personal bias should not affect an opinion on the matter.
He’s not giving an opinion, he’s asking why it‘s easier for them
He's asking an obvious question because of personal bias.
How dare someone clear up a source of confusion by asking a question. We should all be assholes on the internet instead!
Confusion? It's literally the shortest distance to the goal.
Why is it easier for an NFL team to score from the 1-yard line than the 20-yard line?
I'm the same way but it's the shortest distance
In the nba it’s because it’s closer. When the 3 is the same distance then the easiest is straight on to the basket.
I had a deadly shot from the top of the key, but the corner is easiest in NBA because it’s literally closer and you only have to worry about one defender (usually) rotating out. It’s an easy shot to practice because you can create the game settings simply and there’s no thinking involved. Catch and shoot.
Multiple reasons:
-Shortest distance
-less field to be aware of around you
-most open looks because a considerably higher % of corner 3s are catch and shoot compared to the rest of the field
Now why it's difficult for you is pretty obvious, chances are you don't play on an NBA court so the distance might be the same and of course you (probably) don't put up thousands of shots aiming for the basket and shooting from the middle is more forgiving with the backboard.
Closest but for me I've always thought the slot 3pt shot was the easiest.
for casual players the corner may indeed be the hardest one for what you say. for nba players the shot is almost completely mechanic, they rely on muscle memory from repeating the shot thousands of times and has nothing or very little to do with spacial reference. being the closest shot makes it the easiest in this situation because it requires less force and precision which are things that tipically dwindle in a game due to fatigue/pressure/etc.
I think one of the things that might be throwing him off is that only the NBA three is shorter. College and high school 3s aren’t shorter in the corner.
NBA three is short in the corner because there would not be enough room between the out of bounds line and the three point line if it was the full distance. That is not a problem with college 3 point line.
Lotta people in here not reading the post. The three point line is different in the NBA than in college, and most courts you’ll find have the college line. The NBA line is further back, but since it wouldn’t have room along the sidelines, it stops being a circle near the sideline and goes straight towards the baseline. So the answer is that it’s shorter, but that doesn’t apply to you shooting hoops.
I don't like the corners. Lack of depth perception and it's too close. I end up long on the corners unless I put a ton of arc on my shot. Too much legs?
It's closer but also players are usually set for a catch and shoot in the corner. You don't really get that many off the dribble run to the corner 3's.
Distance.
Because you can aim with the backboard
As someone who has shot a million and a half corner 3s in practice during college, the obvious answer is the distance.
The more hidden answer is the amount you practice an almost identical angle on that shot. You might practice a ton of top of the key shots, but you may never take an exact top of the key in game.
The corner 3 because you typically just sit there, is very identical to the one you practice alll day
same
“I” always struggled” that’s why
Your eyes should be on the rim and it’s a shorter shot
I've wondered this myself. These are nba players so I guess just being closer makes it easier for them. For me though, I always thought straight out or even slightly off center was easiest. Sure it's further but I think having the backboard helped me judge distance better
Top of key even though is longest distance is my best shot. I need symmetry.
I suck at corner three.
Because in the nba the 3 is significantly further outside the corner while for most people who the play high school 3, the distance isn’t that different from the corner
I like how this thread is just some variation of “it’s the shortest distance”
Not only is it nearly two feet closer, but once you get used to the distance, the lack of a backboard isn’t a huge deal. I find left corner threes to be the easiest after a few months of practice.
