I always struggled with the corner shots because I have less of a spacial reference with the side of the backboard facing me. Shooting from the top of the key should be much easier, no? I always had the most success with the 45 degree angle one, right between the key and the corner. Maybe that's just me though.

A lot of courts don't use NBA 3 ime, but the ones from the wing should be farther than the ones from the corner. distance is usually the obvious answer

but imo a really big thing is that it's a shot that's really easy to practice and ingrain in muscle memory and easy to put into use. you're not clogging the court for your ball handler by sitting at the wing, and it's usually a good default place to slot yourself if you don't know what to do. the motion of catching a pass and shooting is easily repeatable and there's way less variance in the shot as a result
