Jimmy, it just took longer than I thought it would

Ben Simmons. From his junior year in HS I didn’t think he was anything special. Then I started seeing interviews with him and his attitude rubbed me the wrong way

I was SO high on Grant Williams after his rookie year. I was convinced he was gonna be a better version of PJ Tucker. Ironically now I feel like the consensus opinion has swung too far in the other direction— had a guy the other day tell me with a straight face that he’s better than Michael Porter Jr.

I was so LOW on lamelo. He just looked like some highschool kid to me.

[–] Mikegetscalls@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Had to really watch him to see he didn’t gaf about that Australian league. But he still showed super high level stuff for an 18 year old.

Reaves, I’ve been on to him since I saw him cook the Gonzaga team that was at the time underrated

[–] shanmustafa@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

i have a tweet from like 2014 saying the greek freak will be the next big thing

conversely, i was out on ben simmons the moment he had that 1 point game against the celtics, well, out on him as a point guard, not as a player

[–] electricHats75@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

Chris Paul. I called it when he was at Wake. I would add Brandon Roy to that list too but 😖😖😖. I seen him at Udub and I was like “this is the guy”

[–] Murky_Low6667@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You called what with Chris Paul? Lol

[–] electricHats75@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

That he was a superstar. He was my favorite player.

RJ Barrett was a mediocre athlete and didn't have the finesse or shiftiness to make up for it. He just looked clunky as fuck. He had no right hand. He was shooting 30% from 3 and 66% from the FT line. And the worst part was this dude was jacking up shots like there was no tomorrow even with Zion on his team. I had no idea how he was projected to be a star.

This was me with Cam. The second I saw that he couldn’t hit all the open shots defenses were giving him off of Zion’s gravity, I didn’t see how he was living up to his high school hype.

Jokic....I was on to his game when I saw him throwing over the shoulder, no look lobs to Kenneth Faried

[–] DLottchula@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I been high on him since I saw that shit too

SGA from his rookie season on the clippers. His handle just seemed so real and effective. Didn’t think he’d be THIS good tho

[–] Drewsteau@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I was super high on him rookie year too but I also didn’t think he was gonna develop like he has

Domantas Sabonis. When that man got drafted, no one else had all star and All NBA aspirations for that man. He was “too slow, couldn’t jump & arms were too short” to be any worthwhile in the league. Everyone wrote him off after the one year in OKC.

Even now, he’s the least respected All Star in the league.

I called Randle overrated at the height of the hype before the the 21 playoffs, and I called Randle being when everyone was hating him during the 22 season. He is just an all star forward who you can't expect to carry a franchise.

[–] account26@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

i think its talking about predraft, not how you felt 6 years after someone got drafted

[–] CuredPlutonium@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

I knew Wiseman wasn’t the guy GS should’ve drafted

My bro is a GS fan and swore he was gonna blossom into something beautiful (I’m Bucks fan)

Every time he brings up the 4 rings, I gotta remind him lol

All of them, I have never been wrong. Harden will win his 5th MVP anytime now and go down as the would be best sonic, and the sonics should come back this week *cries*

[–] aBakeinthelife@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Kind of an old one, but Chris Paul.

His BBIQ has always been off the charts. As a kid his ability to run the floor on both ends reminded me a lot of Chauncey Billups and that just aligned with what I saw as championship material. Hope he gets one before he hangs it up.

[–] Murky_Low6667@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Steph Curry, from when I saw him play UCLA when he was at Davidson.

[–] whiiskio@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet

After 2019 a lot of people thought those two wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure of leading a team, and yet both became All-Stars and proven winning pieces on a contending team.

Sure they’re not the mega-watt superstar who can win a ring alone, but for a 27th pick and undrafted FA, not too shabby boys. Not too shabby at all.

[–] ihateeuge@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Team contending for what exactly?

Nic claxton. Knew he would be a beast his first and second year since he played with a ton of energy and his perimeter defense for a big has always been special. Also Nets had developed Jarrett Allen so I felt pretty confident in the training staff when it came to bigs

I remember saying that I thought Trent should have been a lotto guy

[–] teddyjj399@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Ausar Thompson (in 10 years when he’s a perennial allstar)

[–] GoSacKings916@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Russell Westbrook. I was a huge UCLA fan back in the mid 2000s and I told all my fiends this dude was going to be a stud in the league. Even when he wasn’t getting much playing time as a backup 1 his freshman year.

[–] herseyhawkins33@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

Johnny Flynn. Absolutely no justification in the moment to take him over curry. It was ludicrous.

Jalen Green. Everyone thinking he is gonna make a leap this year will be sadly disappointed.

I said starting in like 2013 that Westbrook is not a winner and no matter how good his stats/highlights are, he will never be a guy who can contribute to a title. Seems like it took until like 2020 for people to come around on him.

[–] nojeanshere@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Naz Reid. Really really wanted us to get him as a UDFA.

Cade Cunningham. He isn't generational or anything special. Just a better NBA player.

Didnt even made the cut for the world cup against Austin Reaves..

Deaaron fox. I remember watching the ncaa tourney and thought he was a dog. Played with so much fire. I knew he’d be good. I wished the knicks had a pick in the five range to get him that year.

[–] sondiame@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I said Tyrese Haliburton would be an All Star during Draft Night and the group chat almost kicked me out.

Giannis. I remember calling him Magic Giannison. Obviously he’s his own beast, but he was a freak the moment he started getting some burn.

[–] EngineQuick6169@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Not from the get-go but in the summer of 2019, when Jimmy Butler was a toxic asset, everyone was sure he's team cancer and our team culture was sure to crumble if Pat got him, my brother (a Bulls fan from the Derrick Rose years) assured me that Jimmy was the guy to turn the Heat's fortunes around.

My goodness he was so right.
