I remember a lot of people from the nba draft subreddit were higher on Vassell than majority of the class. I think a good amount even considered drafting him 1st because of his guaranteed skillset. Shocked he fell as far as he did.

Lol, who on earth was considering drafting Vassell 1st that year?

[–] Savings-Bird-1226@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Nba draft subreddit does a lot of polls around draft time. Vassell was around the top of them consistently. The majority wasn't sold on Edwards, Lamelo or Wiseman. Some even considered Killan Hayes. You laugh now but nobody knew with that draft.

Lot of people had Halliburton in the top 5. When he feel out the top 10 I was like wtf

I was so LOW on lamelo. He just looked like some highschool kid to me.

[–] Mikegetscalls@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Had to really watch him to see he didn’t gaf about that Australian league. But he still showed super high level stuff for an 18 year old.

[–] Harrychronicjr69@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

All I knew of him was highschool mixtapes 🤷🏻‍♂️ I didn’t follow him in Australia. He just seemed like a straight nephew to me.

Yeah that’s what a lot of nba fans thought.

At 6’6/6’7 he was doing stuff you don’t ever see guys at that height do as a playmaker/ shot creator.

I was the same way

The thing that surprises me the most of Lamelo is his defense. We've all seen that ridiculous floater and passing game of his but youngins like him tend to lack strength and awareness on the defensive end . He does not lack either against players of similar stature. He's an eager and anticipatory defender when he tries.

Im also surprised of his ability to defend playing alongside a wife beater. :P

Kids like 21 years old, drives a rolls royce, and grew up in a wealthy family, I'd be more surprised if he did say anything about Bridges. Not that there's ever truly an excuse to tolerate deplorable actions of others, but man Melo's an asshole rich kid he was never going to say anything anyway

Lamelo has the shortest wingspan relative to his height in the NBA right now. His wingspan is 1.5 inches longer than Curry's and we all know Curry has Trex arms. His defensive ceiling is slightly below average at best. The only short-armed great defender in the NBA is Butler and his wingspan is 2 inches longer while being shorter than Lamelo plus he's more athletic.

[–] Sad_Gas3778@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

? Where were you getting your info from? Most reports say Lamelo has a 6’10 wingspan, which is good for a 6’7 pg. His wingspan is 6 inches longer than curry’s who has a 6’4 wingspan. He doesn’t have a 6’5.5 wingspan. Lamelo can become a solid defender, as he adds strength and put in more effort.

[–] NewAgeIWWer@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Where are you getting YOUR numbers from please?

[–] NewAgeIWWer@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

How did you come up with these numbers? You just individually calculated them?

[–] DragoniteGang@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yea. Lamelo had a 6'5.5 wingspan in his scouting report. Curry's is 6'4. Butler's is 6'7.

[–] NewAgeIWWer@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

which scouting report please?

[–] NewAgeIWWer@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

That factoid about Butler surprises me as he is one of the best stealsman I've ever seen.

Also yeah Curry's arms are laughably short in comparison to his body. Something is wrong with Curry or something - how is he the best shooter ever but his arms are so unusually short!? These short arms also show up on defense , look at how many times tall shooters like Danny Greens, Ingles have just risen up over Curry and just demolished him time and again. Curry just seems like a one way value player , every time I've seen Curry put in effort to stop rim rockers who can just do damage to a rim.due to their vertical and strength Curry has failed like 99% of the time. This kid CANNOT block up the backline and its kinda laughable lol. His shooting, gravity and playmaking more than make up for this lack of D only when you surround him with defensive bigs. See? This is why GSW is always hard-on for centres and big forwards(well...usually.I have no idea why GSW would put Payton II next to Curry. Won't big teams realized that they can just run big lineups that'll demolish them every time. And sure Curry and Payton ii are some of the best stealsmen ever and are defensively positive...But are they defensively positive enough to stop a team that has a bunch of size? like Denver? Like ... the lakers? -_-)

I’m starting MVP buzz for him early
