Who has the bigger fanbase? LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers or Taylor Swift? Both are peaking in popularity right now so it got me curious.

Most people outside of basketball don’t really care about LeBron. Yes, he is the #1 most famous basketball athlete, but basketball isn’t even the most popular global sport. Swift by the nature of her craft will hit a wider variety of audiences and be much more popular.

Outside of like Messi and politicians I think it’s actually not too much of a stretch. Maybe Mbappe too? She’s had a huge resurgence in the last year, which is crazy because she never even fell off

It’s not a perfect metric, but Taylor Swift has 94 million Twitter followers, and LeBron has 52 million. LeBron is behind Obama, Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Trump, Justin Bieber, and even Britney Spears.

The Lakers subreddit has 553k members, the Taylor Swift one has over 1 mil. Swift also has more than 100 mil more Instagram followers than lebron. That obviously doesn't prove it but there's no chance an American sports team or athlete is big enough. Messi and Ronaldo and real madrid and barcelona probably compare.
