Welp, I finally did it, I tried on my holy grail and it was BEAUTIFUL! But at the moment I just couldn't pull the trigger. Are there any quality pandas similar to this around the $500 mark?

Don’t settle for something you don’t want. Keep saving and you’ll get there!

Look up the seagull 1963, you can buy them with acrylic or sapphire crystals, steel or bronze Cases, different dials galore. It's a workhorse of a movement used in the 1963 too.

Maybe check out the citizen Brycen line

Dan Henry has a great lool a like with a seiko mecha quartz if you’re not after the brand

Save up and buy the Intra-Matic. I bought one last year. You will not regret it, and it looks great on your wrist. Look to the used market.. there are a lot of guys who buy these and never wear them, leaving mint piece selling at the $1200-1500 range.

[–] cthulhucomes@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wonder why so many would wear only once then never again…?

[–] nndttttt@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It looka great on paper, being one of the best $1000-2000 chronograph, but doesn’t wear very well for a lot of people. I tried it on and didn’t like how far the lugs overhang. Maybe they bought online without trying?

Looks great on OP though, I’d say save up for it. I’ve been looking for a sub-5000 chronograph and nothing has really stood out for me yet.

The Seiko Speedtimer (both v1 and V2) are good options. There is also a Suguess (Surgess? Idk how to spell it) that uses the manual-wind ST-1901 movement (used in the “seagull 1963” and has a panda dial. QC for the ST-1901 at the Sea-Gul factory is not the best but that’s part of why these Chinese watches using it are able to sell their watches for under US $500 and probably why other brands like it. They look good, but just be an informed consumer about it

[–] internet_humor@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Dude. Just save up and get the Hamilton.

[–] No_Selection_662@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Dan henry 1964 white panda

Just swap for a milanese band and it's as close as it gets

Seiko SSB425P1 - it’s a tricompax, but the 6 o’clock subdial matches the dial, so it’s subtle. Found one for $140. Might be enough to scratch the itch without breaking the bank while you save for the Hammy.

I think the Hamilton Panda is a 10/10 for looks in a Chrono. Do it!

Consider the hand winding part of the charm, and get a daily ritual going (every morning while the coffee is brewing?).

Wow, what’s the reference for this?

[–] YvesLauwereyns@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

probably not exactly the same quality, but you can get seagull 1963 pandas for around 200$.

Right!? Damn I was eyeballing the reverse panda too! Sooo slick.

[–] Mawaqeet@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

And this is a manual wind with no date window, so joyful to wind and not complicated to get it up and ready. I intend to own watches that have no date window generally so I can set them up real quick.

Orient got some Pandas, one even with a diver bezel. It looks really nice but I just think it does not belong on a chronometer. I really like the look of the Dan Henry watches, especially the 1962. Modeled after the Nina Rindt UG. Only problem with the Dan Dan Henry is the Movement. It is a Nice Seiko Vk63 movement, I think, but you can get a nice looking Pagani Design watch with the same movement for a fifth of the price. Don't like PG though, so I bought the Seiko SSC813. It is an incredible watch, goes for around 700 bucks I think. But you can find a JDM model (SBDL085?) online with half the price. No difference between the models except one dial saying Japanese movement and the other V192, or so I read online.

[–] HelixtheBat@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'll have to check it out. Not a fan of diver style but I might go try em on and see if I feel differently once they're on my wrist. Was gonna go for a Dan Henry but I'm not dropping more than $100 on a watch that has mineral glass.

Save up for the one you want.

For me, nothing compared to the Navitimer, so that's the one I waited for.

Since it's not a horribly expensive watch, I'd just save up for it

[–] _visiblemode_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Save for it. Nothing else will scratch the itch. This is the one you really want.

Sugess Chrono Heritage. $210 with a sapphire crystal. The Seagull chrono movement is quite decent.

[–] DeliverySavings3541@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I got the yema rallygraf, only downside for me is that it’s not automatic (mecaquartz). I love it though, this is beautiful!
