Question: I tried about a month ago to get this going and it seemed like it wouldn't work for YouTube unless my phone was rooted. Am I missing something?

I have F-Droid, but don't see vanced microg. https://search.f-droid.org/?q=microg

Edit: I added the repository and it says the microg stuff is already installed: https://microg.org/download.html
Edit2: as @scottmeme@sh.itjust.works said here, I had to download the YouTube apk.
Edit3: I can patch the downloaded apk, but still working on installing it.
Edit4: Getting the error "App not installed as package conflicts with an existing package."
Edit5: I think I'm going to have to get ADB going on my computer in order to uninstall the original YouTube from my phone.

You have to enable the patch to give revanced a different name

So far I've been able to patch a downloaded .apk, but I can't install the patched .apk. Are you saying I should be renaming something?

It's in the manager, "custom branding" i think it is. It's one of the patches.

Alternately if you can uninstall actual YouTube that solves it too.

Ok, thanks for the additional guidance. I don't see anything like that, so I remain stuck haha.

Aha. I figured out I was trying to patch a too-new version. The option you're taking about is default, but there's another MicroG option that wasn't automatically selected. Thanks for the help, I wouldn't have known where to look otherwise.

have you turned on micro-g while building?

[–] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 1 points 11 months ago

Yes, I've figured it out now. I explain here where I went wrong.

you probably get more features with root, but i've been running it rootless since vanced

[–] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 11 months ago

Yeah Vanced worked for me rootless. I'll try again and see what happens.

I had to download the APK from apkmirror, and build it from local storage. Worked perfectly fine after that.

I was tired of using MicroG services so I switched to LibreTube
