Andrew Bynum was the last 17 year old in the NBA. And by 17 year old, I mean drafted the same year you would turn 18 at the end of the year. For example, if a player is born in 2007, he would be drafted in 2025 instead of 2026. Do you think we will see that anytime soon again? There have been a lot of high school draftees since the one and done rule yet none are 18 (by year's end).

Bynam was 18 year and 6 days old when he debuted. Can't play below 18. Being drafted yeah

There are plenty of professional athletes below 18. The NBA just got the players to agree to a higher age limit through collective bargaining.

Are there 17-year olds in any professional sports in America? I don't think it's really legal/possible. I feel like it would've been done in NHL by now.

The age limit for gymnastics is 16 in USA. I think handful of other smaller sports is 16 as well

There's a bunch in the MLS, there's players as young as 15 there

No. The rule is you need to be 19 during the calendar year of the draft. So that would mean you would at least be 18 when drafted. I doubt you will ever see the rule change back because veterans wouldn't want that in a CBA and especially now that players can make money in the G league or in the NCAA with NILs.

The players have consistently fought to get the age limit lowered since they know what bullshit it is.

And they consistently let it slide in negotiations because its just not a priority for guys already in the league.

Definitely not, teams nor players want it and the new rule benefits all parties. High schoolers can go the G-League route if they wanna turn professional now.

Yes very likely.

Its a shame but I get that it is this way in American sports because of the colleges. I still believe if you are good enough you are old enough, hate to see young people lose money because of the college system.
