im really impressed by the projects that continue to exist. since the "mainstream" dawn of desktop home linux (circa 2004?) so many open source projects that were critical for the user base ecosystem to find linux daily-able are still going. open source is awesome. from a user perspective, i am not a developer, i hate and suck at 'coding'...but im so appreciative for the developers and maintainers of the vast amounts of code that exists in the linux open source space...badass

I personally selfhost a navidrome server for my music all flac so my library is about 20+gb rn ( and still continues to grow ). Struggling to find decent subsonic compatible player for linux so will check if deadbeef supports it.

For phone I use symfonium ( not open source neither free but the best for subsonic ).

Deadbeef is awesome. No nonsense and powerful features.

On Android I use Poweramp. Not open source or even free, but great UX and all the features I need, with every effort being made for the best sound quality.

I still use a streaming service because it's just so damn convenient, and also a great way to discover new music, but at the same time i have also started to build up a cd collection of my favourites, so that way i also have music that i actually own.
