homie netanyahu is so dependant on the US, the killing must've felt to him as if it happened on Israeli soil

comparing your profile's comment count to the average user, I'd say that's solid self advice

I fully agree with this and don't dispute it, but when you look at all the media that came out from the republicans within the first 48 after the shooting, hell even trump's speech, was about "the radical left". even if the reality is different now, that thought is already engrained in the psyche of the right and I almost guarantee that even after the realization that Tyler is even more radical than kirk, the tabloids will continue to read "radical left", even though everyone knows its bullshit. because its what everyone except for the dems want to hear.

fair enough.

do we know if the father is religious?

Been following the developments on the shooting of Charlie Kirk quite intensively from Europe these past few days. This whole thing stinks. Investigators had no idea who the shooter was, then BOOM, all of a sudden they do? Tyler Robinson goes home, tells his dad (who is former law enforcement) and he then tells a family friend???? This stinks. if the father is a former cop or whatever, he would either go full out and snitch his son to the people searching for him, or take it with him to his grave. Makes no sense, I don't buy it. Trump knew about the shooting before any media, that was on-site, reported about it? Fishy.

I dunno man, maybe its just my extreme distrust in the US but with all the radical shit that's been happening over there since Trump's reelection, I think nothing is too wild to not be considered. The american right needed someone of significance to get popped so they could use their image for martyrdom to push their ideals.

On a person note (yes, this is going to get me down voted to shit): I'm quite appalled at the sadism and joy that many people on Lemmy are taking to the killing of Kirk. I'm not getting into his politics. Yes, he was radical, i disagreed with his messaging and values and he was a piece of shit. But from a humanitarian perspective, way too many people here are making fucked up memes about the death of a young man with two young kids and a wife. You don't have to like him, you can even hate him, but leave the guy some dignity ffs. Maybe Lemmy isn't the platform of intellectuals I thought it was. This will probably be my last post. Americans are fucking insane.

the right distro for you is whatever works for you. you don't order a steak just because your friends get one, when you really want those succulent linguinis.

I mean to be fair, we sent Keller-Sutter, that joke of a politician. Besides the point that she's an old mothbag hag she also speaks horrible English at a juvenile level. Its straight up embarrassing. Every developing country can present an elected official with high English competence. Instead of being firm with him, we once again pulled our dicks in and plaid the submissive schoolgirl. Let's hope the 39% doesn't last. With that and the current strength of the swiss franc, our exports are going to suffer heavily.

i mean, i agree, but then again - every SE has had their fair share of entshittification. i switched to qwant briefly (was using startpage at the time), because startpage got some bad press. then used qwant, thought it was meh without good search results and changed back to startpage, then found out qwant had bad press too after. honestly not suprised if big tech is behind all of it to keep novice users on their platforms and doing their "research" for them.

this is huge if true, where'd you read that?

[–] _LordMcNuggets_@feddit.org 1 points 5 months ago

yeah 100% agree. we have a saying in Switzerland (probably Germanic in general), "being dumb is one thing, staying dumb is another". maybe not the perfect thing to draw upon but the syntax is the same 😂

i've noticed that a lot of the content on my lemmy feed seems to be centered around lgbtq+ topics, which I'm not really interested in. i'm not looking to debate or criticize anyone's identity, but I'd like to see a broader range of topics that align more with my preferences. i'm already subscribed to those instances but somehow that sort of content keeps on creeping in.

is lemmy as a platform particularly focused on lgbtq+ or is my feed just skewed for some reason?

are there specific instances or settings I should check out to balance things out. thanks for any advice!

I have an older Sony TV which has (what I can only guess to be) Google's Android TV app installed on it. I'm sick of getting new recommendations from Amazon and Disney+ and all those services. Is there a way to strip it down bare bones and get everything I need from another app repo - kinda like with Graphene vs Android?

Not really a shower thought, I came to this perspective in my dreams. And yes, that night's sleep absolutely slapped.

Lemmy > Mastodon (feddit.org)

I've been giving Mastodon a fair share over the past few months, but even though the user base is significantly larger on that platform than Lemmy, I find the actual user ENGAGEMENT significantly worse. I'll be posting random super interesting shit (according to me at least) and get fuck all as any for of reaction whatsoever, whereas Lemmy and its users actually engage in dope content. Therefore I've come to the clear scientific and educated decision that Lemmy is simply superior. Since it's "AskLemmy" - thoughts?

even if you disable the feature, I have zero to no trust I'm OpenAI to respect that decision after having a history of using copyrighted content to enhance their LLMs

Nothing special, just wanted to make a post because I'm extremely proud of myself today. Reddit was the only thing holding me back, and I'm happy to say that I've just deleted my 8 year old account. I'm now only using open source apps for my android and desktop OS and it feels amazing!

I was on another thread and got deep into learning about the history of certain words and thought I'd post here. What word history origins / facts do you know?

I'll start with two that I recently came across:

  • "‘Wer’ (meaning ‘man’) came from Old High German with the Anglo Saxons 1,500 years ago, and was part of Old English. It then became ‘were’ in Middle English and remains as part of werewolf (‘man wolf’) in modern English." (Source: BillTongg@lemmy.world)

  • "Sculptors in antique Rome could fix mistakes they made by mixing marble dust with wax. If a sculptor was especially gifted and made no mistakes that needed fixing, they would market their art as “sin cera”, which means “without wax”, which is where the word “sincere” comes from." (Source: Pooptimist@lemmy.world)
