''But the stats show he's better than Ramsdale!!!''

I guess people watch stats instead of football matches

People stare themselves so blind on stats its unreal. While they also don't consider the context of those stats. People will just throw stats around like ''passing accuracy'' but won't take into account against which opponents it was and how those opponents played (like did they pressure the passer a lot or not?).

Player X gets room to pass the ball around. The opponents don't bother to pressure him much because they are worrying more about another player for example. Their managers gave them the task to stop that other player in this scenario.

Meanwhile player Y doesn't get that same wiggle room to pass the ball around. In his case the opposing players do get the assignment to pressure him more.

Player X had a passing accuracy of 90%! wow so good

Player Y had a passing accuracy of 85%! see player X HAS to be better

Meanwhile Player Y did amazingly well with tremendous pressure put on him. He kept turning and twisting his opponents and still finding his teammates perfectly 85% of all the passes he gave. Only made a couple slight errors while under pressure. While Player X had free room to pass around at his hearts desire while he made 1 big error while there was no pressure on him whatsoever.

Stat junkies will tell you Player X is the superior player. His stats show that! While people that actually watch the matches know that Player Y is the better player and can do much more when there's pressure put on him.

Yeah if chat arteta was saying is true he should go back to ramsdale, but I think we all know it's bs and he'll stick with Raya until he does have an absolute howler (mudryk goal wasn't his fault imo)

I mean I want ramsdale to have some champions leaves games anyways, man got us there and hasn't had a lick in

I mean, what Raya's doing is what Arteta wants him to do. People will call Raya shaky but the entire point is that Raya is being asked to put his sole on the ball and bait the press, plus join the defensive line instead of staying in the box.

Ramsdale will be expected to do the exact same thing, so I think this is just a result of the media forcing an issue that isn't really there.

How can you not think that Mudryk goal was his fault? I saw the same thing happen in the lead up to one of the Spurs goals, routine cross in that Rays fumbles with and ends up in a Spurs goal 45 secs later. It’s clearly something teams have identified, Mudryk said as much himself that the GK coach identified it

[–] Spud_1997@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Lol it's bs, watch mudryk the entire time he doesnt look at Raya/goal once

And Raya is that far off because that's where he's told to be

[–] Hech15@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thats just Chelsea fanbase and mudryk trying to convince themselves like the rest know what actually happened😂

[–] chayatoure@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Lol, it’s either a mishit, and a very poor cross that got extremely lucky, or maybe the most amazing no look goal of all time. My man was staring down his runner.
You certainly want your keeper to play the cross and position to deny a crazy mishit.

Unai Simon undisputed keeper for Spain. The Pl fans once again wrong saying that Raya was the best option for Spain.

[–] siriBackInWakanda@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

PL fans being wrong is nothing new. They were surprised and were calling for Enrique head when he did not like to have De Gea who is the worst Keeper we had for a long time.

Simón is not an elite goalkeeper but he does the job quite well. And some games he is amazing for both National team and club. Even if it's a tinpot trophy but he was good against Croatia in the Nation league final.

[–] VexoftheVex@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yes - I’m sure Liverpool, Manchester City and Leeds fans were massively backing De Gea

What is a “PL fan” - why generalise so much?

[–] noxiousd@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Because Barca fans act like they are the gatekeepers for all that is honorable in the game. Not realising the deep set irony that brings with it 😂

Racist bullying at la Masia = it's not racism

Referee bribery and underhand transfer dealings = they only want to help Barca because its the right thing to do

Financial levers = all is correct and fine, all clubs receive cash injections this way

[–] siriBackInWakanda@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Because they like to overrate their players because the usual instance is he plays in the so called "best league".

[–] MoyesNTheHood@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

PL fans once again wrong

Yeah cause I’m sure Fulham fans or bournemouth fans give a fuck about who’s number 1 between Raya and Simon 😂

Where’d you pull this shit from

[–] HacksawJimDGN@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Arteta should have backed 1 keeper and gone on from there. He's created this scenario where every keeper mistake will be over analysed by the media and creates uncertainty and extra pressure on the keepers.

If he stays with Raya every mistake will continue to be magnified. If he starts playing Ramsdale he'll come under the same pressure.

The only thing he can do is release a statement saying "I had mentioned alternating keepers, but I feel Raya has shown enough to be named number 1 keeper. Mistakes can happens we need to back him etc."

[–] Purple_State7994@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

the exact same thing happened at United with De Gea and Henderson.

[–] milkonyourmustache@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I think he's more likely to dig his heels in and back Raya. Mudryk's fluke sliced cross wasn't Raya's fault. The annoying part is that Raya isn't an obvious upgrade to Ramsdale, he's better at some things but worse at others. I know Arteta didn't like how inconsistent Ramsdale had become with his long distribution but we're now less press resistant when we're playing out from the back because Raya's pass selection is not optimal to beat the opponents' press.
