People always talk about how huge of an advantage his hand size was, I don't really get it though. It's the NBA, so I'm assuming most of them would have large hands anyway. Like, I can palm a ball and I'm only 6'2, I don't really get it.

I'm 5'10" and can palm a basketball. Can't do any of the tricks MJ and Kawhi can.

There's big, and then there's big.

You can palm a ball, but he could control a ball. For all of the freakish athleticism and circus finishes, my favorite highlights of his are the one handed ball fakes. Try to do a convincing one without losing the ball

Have you ever been slapped by someone with grown ass hands? Then you would understand.

Well Kawhi has huge hands and it helps him in defense and he is probably the best mid range shooter in the modern NBA aling with KD and Derozan. I think it's a pretty sizable advantage, especially at this high a level of competition.

Big hands have disadvantage also. Its rlly hard to shoot with those hands. Which is incredible how good of a ft, midrange shooter he is

Go watch some of his highlights and it’s apparent how much it helped him. He could move the ball out of the way and just do ridiculous stuff. I’m actually surprised more big handed players haven’t attempted some of these things. But I think what is really underrated about MJ is his balance that along with those hands is what made him absurd around the rim.

Its over stated. Kyrie has the GOAT handles and is almost, if not the, best finisher ever.

[–] fuckitiroastedyou@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Kyrie is nowhere near the best finisher ever unless you go by style points.

Nah.

With big hands MJ could swing the ball multiple directions, including backwards (think pushing ball fwd then backwards).

Most other players can't do that, so they're committed to the action thus is more guardable.

Along with his hangtime, big hands and agility, MJ is able to avoid blocks where virtually every other player would get blocked (he would get his shot off after waiting for his defender to land first, even if the defender jumped with perfect timing for a good block).

Youtube "Michael jordan voyager" and "Michael jordan historic mixtape".

Nobody has highlights with the frequency and consistency like mj it's actually insane. Nobody lol.

My pants aren’t ready to imagine Kai with bigger hands

Not just on offense but defense too. Kawhis defense. His defense is partially from him having bigger hands to rip the ball more consistently.

Look at the difference between Paul George and Kawhi. PG has big hands but Kawhi's are huge. MJ's hands are the same size as Kawhi's. It's not just palming, it's palming through all sorts of contact.

I haven't heard anyone talk about it for a while, TBH.
