Glad Chuck asked that, he’s one of the few with the power in the media to do that without consequences

[–] Towniemania@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He is both the best and most evil looking commissioner in sports

[–] PlanktonSemantics@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You could see Adam Silver just sink back as Chuck started with the preface. I've been there where you know you're about to get called out and you didn't get away. Squirmy wormy.

[–] webberstimeout@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Chuck is a real one

[–] Grosjeaner@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I honestly don't see what the big issue is with the NBA getting rid of repeat offending scumbags. Why is it so difficult? There are plenty of domestic and international talents out there ready to join and shine in the league.

Kobe punching the air

[–] BugRevolutionary4518@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Much respect for Chuck for asking that. Unfortunately, Silver stuttered more than John Melendez after 12 Heinekens.

[–] 1hipsterdoofus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Love Charles Barkley. Thank you for keeping it real.

[–] SaddestHappyMeal@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Pretty embarrassing Chuck even had to ask the question considering we all know what David Stern would have done

[–] Abrasive_Underwear@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Adam Silver doesn't really have that much power. The players should be held accountable for supporting and enabling this behavior.

[–] RobbobertoBuii@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Silver did not (and did not want to) address that which is really disappointing tbh

[–] Fellers@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Silver was not ready for that lol

[–] ApoliticalAth3ist@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Ja got 25 games for being dumb while guys get no punishment for beating women. Good job Adam

[–] BossButterBoobs@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Chuck knows how to play to his base

[–] Leo_York@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

"We gotta get it right"

[–] officerlongdangles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yo Charles Barkley doing gods work right there

[–] KungFuSlanda@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's really bizarre to talk to a guy like Adam Silver about domestic violence issues for players in his league. Police officers can barely figure that out in the moment. Conviction? Sure.. Accusation? What are we even talking about?

[–] NoMereRanger73@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Big respect for Barkley

[–] JustinMemerBeliever@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What are they doing about Hong Kong?

[–] Neinhaltt@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Silver was shook

[–] Steelshamrocks@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Charles may not have played for them, but god damn he’s a HEAT LEGEND 🔥

[–] Tsunami-Papi_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

THE FUCKING GOAT CHUCK UR SO REAL . YOU’VE NEVER MISSED

What is the "National Basketball Association" doing about Domestic Violence? I would hope the same thing the IRS is doing about someone's cancer, leaving it up to the proper authority! The NBA is not the legal system and should do what it does best, which is regulate their league. Period.

We have this thing called the criminal justice system in the US that is designed specifically for these types of issues. If someone alleges you committed a crime, they call the police, file a report and the District Attorney looks at evidence and decides whether there's a legal case against the defendant to file criminal charges. Then you go before a jury and make your case and you either are acquitted or go to jail. Voila! No sports association needed.

When did we start expecting sporting associations to become surrogates for the criminal justice system? Who thought that was a good idea? Not to disagree with the esteemed professor Barkley, but I'm of the mind that the group created to regulate a basketball league for profit with a public brand to protect is probably not the best group to take the place of the criminal justice system. Just a thought.

Silver doesn’t look like a normal human, right?

[–] CharityGamerAU@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Thank you Charles. My partner works in domestic violence, a men's behavioural change program, so getting this asked and out there is significant. And thank you to Silver for actually answering it properly on the spot. Have seen key people in DV in my home state. Asked us of professional sports teams and leagues and not gotten such a genuine answer, almost always brushed off or close to it.

Barkley is the best, man.

[–] mic1700_xVIE@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Like dave chappelle said: "What was the bitch saying?"

[–] retroracer33@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

"we should be at the forefront "

i think the nba go this one on lock right now lol

[–] perhapssergio@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Which players are being abused off DV? Genuine question

[–] chickens_beans@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Invest back into less fortunate communities and families. Start at the source. At the same time, meaningful punishments for offenders and, of course, counseling like he mentioned. Hit it from all angles.

Also, it can’t be a bottom down approach. Prominent players in the league need to step up as well by holding their teammates accountable. A young player should feel pressure from their veterans to act right. Same in my workplace, we can’t just rely on the company to build culture, it’s our responsibility as well.

[–] CreativeAir1868@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Adam Silver is truly a soulless coward

[–] YoungFlexibleShawty@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

A guy like Miles Bridges should not be in the league, there is basically zero punishment if he ends up back to the NBA.

[–] Safe-Key-1115@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Charles Barkley is the man

[–] ReggieLedouxYouParty@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Don’t worry guys, we have the t e c h n o l o g y

[–] Kyoku_cr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Respect to Barkley for that question and the "shut up and play" comment on load management.

[–] Throwawayhobbes@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s versed to be a politician.

[–] lpkzach92@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Good on him for asking that

[–] gjiang4@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

All em big ol woman down in San Antonio gonna be sending Chuck a bunch of churros for this💕

[–] redmostofit@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Hmm. Crossing a line, consequences enormous. Crossing the Bridges? Contract enormous.

[–] loopasfunk@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Uncle Barkley doing the damn thing

[–] kettenkarussell@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What a shit answer

[–] DefactoAtheist@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Chuck's late-career pivot into woke icon has gotta have some of the "kEeP PoLiTiCs OuT oF sPoRt" crowd absolutely seething and I'm totally here for it.

[–] LilBabywDaBlueEyes@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
[–] rafacena@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So Silver didn't actually say anything of actual substance here.

[–] Lottapumpkins@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
