Title. I'm looking to buy my first watch with a budget around $500. I'd like a watch I could wear everyday that goes well with most outfits. Preferably metal band that isn't after market because I don't really understand how that all works. I know this question has been asked already but the posts and things I can find online are dated. Seems the market fluctuated a bit, just looking for opinions!

Thanks everyone.

There are plenty of options. Just head to the "Buying Guide". At that price range, Orient Kamasu is the popular candidate. If you prefer more tailored suggestion, it's better to also add your wrist width and your preferable style.

I’d recommend to ignore people proposing Seikos, Orients and Citizens.

Have a look at Certina or Hamilton.

I agree that for $500 you should look at brands outside Japan and I would had Tissot to your second list, but what’s wrong with something like a Citizen NB1050?

Check brands like Tissot, Hamilton, Certina, etc.

Learn about Quartz vs. Automatic watches to make a decision about that.

The Hamilton Khaki King does a really good job of checking all the boxes for an every day watch for around $500.

If you are new to watches, make sure you understand the difference between a quartz watch and an automatic (mechanical). A good video talking about the strengths and weaknesses of each

You might consider a Casio Oceanus OCW-S100-1AJF Solar powered quartz, with a scratch resistant Sapphire lens. 100m water resistance so it's safe for pool or shower. Atomic radio controlled, so it automatically connects with an atomic clock, so it is always 100% accurate and sets itself for daylight savings time.
