Just to save anyone time if they care. Judas is 602. 666 was actually taken by Christian Ziege nine years later.

[–] GoinXwell1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

For a second I thought you were referring to some Brazilian dude who had Judas as his footballing name

[–] DrLokiHorton@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I showed both these comments to a friend and they still didnt get it when I explained it to them … gosh is this what it feels to be old?

[–] Terran_it_up@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

He'd be a great signing for Arsenal, he'd really help Jesus get on the end of crosses

[–] Due-Welder5285@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Man, if this comment was a day earlier it'd have a million upvotes.

[–] mattfoh@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Why? As What relation does Judas have to the numbers?

[–] Nipso@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

He means Sol Campbell.

Who's won the double, when the scum from the Lane won fuck all. Again.

[–] theninjat@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Downvoted for telling the truth.

[–] Blazatryx@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Amazing that you've used the word 'scum' but it wasn't directed at Sol Campbell, who has proven himself to be one of the scummiest people in Premier League history. Life of an Arsenal fan, I suppose.

[–] birdinthird@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The only questionable thing Big Sol's done is declare himself a conservative a few years after retirement—not something most Arsenal fans personally agree with, but whatever. Yet he's "one of the scummiest people in Premier League history" to Spuds fans because he left you lot. Hilarious

Ziege actually means goat in German. The devil is often portrayed as a black goat. Coincidence? I don’t think so

[–] dave1992@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

And 777 is Gylfi..

[–] Agitated-Tourist9845@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Last player to lift the Premier League at WHL.

[–] ExoskeletalJunction@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Well established in other sports, I've always wondered why football hasn't done this? Hopefully they do it like cricket and make actual caps, and idk we could like set #602 on fire or something and use the ashes for a trophy

[–] MrPigcho@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I was like: is Campbell 602? Yep, Campbell is 602. I don't think I could identify any other team's most hated player...

[–] cheersdom@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

a legacy is a legacy i guess

really surprised spurs invited questions with this selection even if he was class for them

[–] AjenoMerveilles@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Pretty cool.

Would be even cooler if there was a hierarchy like The Stonecutters.

[–] ZeFrenchy16@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Now let's all get drunk and play ping pong!

[–] Sdub4@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I love this kind of thing – hope we do it too at some point

[–] R_Schuhart@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah players seem to really value and appreciate it as well. Arsenal include it in their presentation vids, and players always look really happy about it. Cricket and rugby have been doing it for decades and players have spoken out about how proud they felt and how it was a real acknowledgement of what they had accomplished to get there.

[–] halbpro@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It's such a simple gesture that helps to cement a player as part of history, I can't imagine what it must mean for a player that's come up through the academy

[–] Shane4894@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Common for internationals. Rugby / cricket etc.

[–] 42undead2@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Interesting idea for a club with Jewish history to start giving people unique numbers.

[–] Theron1997@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Cuthbert Monk's parents had a real sense of humour.

[–] jesalr@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

879 over 141 years. That's just over 6 new players a season. It's surprisingly lower than I would have guessed.

The rate seems to be higher in modern times too.

Interesting to see the numbers jump at certain times. Heartbreakingly massive changes post wars

[–] montiel_scores@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is such a cool idea

[–] AndrijKuz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I know the All Blacks do this. I think it's a really cool idea. It puts you into a select fraternity of players.

[–] EarlOfEase@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Congratulations for inventing the employer ID

[–] brainacpl@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

It's a serial number, but legacy sounds cooler.
