Don’t get me wrong Mido is in no way „cheap“. But I feel like at Mido you can get a lot for your money. The Divers really look good and it’s quite easy to negotiate them down in prices. Are they somehow out of fashion? Is something going on with the brand I don’t know about? And most importantly: If you own one how do you like it?

Mido is like a better Longines so...yea

[–] P-A-seaaaa@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Calling mido a better longines is lol delusional

Longines is like a better Mido? OOOOHHHHH!!! Oh ok I see

[–] 2_Spo0ky@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have an Ocean Star 200C and love it, even though I don't wear it too much anymore as my Sinn 104 fills a similar role for me.

Although now that you mentioned it, the saleslady immediately offered a 10% discount before I even talked about the price.

To me, they're just a swatch group sub brand with mostly bland design. There is no character or defining design language there.

[–] Leonarr@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well said. They seem like solid watches but the designs are quite generic. Kind of like Tissot’s divers which are so basic that it’s as if someone just told AI “design a diving watch”.

[–] bukithd@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The multifort TV big date is probably the only model of theirs that feels unique or well thought. I personally think the rest of their catalog just looks like fashion brand or "industry trend average" designs. The swtach group also stuffing the powermatic 80 derivatives in all of their models makes their near $1k price seem fishy.

Longines, Mido, and etc are what luxury Swiss watches are supposed to cost. The cost is already dumb but to go beyond just proves what a bunch of men’s jewelry enthusiasts we all are. Why? Let’s face it. Few of us are actually taking apart, cleaning, and maintaining our watches let alone other watches for fun. We’re not hobbyists. We’re a Prada like sub about collecting watches.

Mido is dope. Great bang for buck. Buy it.

[–] Feezbull@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I mean yeah in the end the hand engraving of some brands and nicer finishing of the case and movement and dial if you’re lucky, doesn’t really warrant a 35k cost…..

[–] baronney@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I could not agree more. An Ocean Star is on my list !

[–] Watershipper@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I dig your description of us. Gets better with each reread :D

[–] mcmanninc@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Pardon me, but some of us don't WANT the truth. Sometimes the truth is SCARY and maybe we don't wanna hear it! Thank you.

Is that the 33mm? Looks great!

[–] jurassiclarktwo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Wow, great finishing on the movement. Never seen this before.

[–] Chefseiler@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They are. Unfortunately massively underrated, however some of their models do have the tendency to look a bit "lower end".

[–] Ok_Parsnip7262@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Mido, Certina, Tissot and Hamilton all present insane value for money, especially vis a vis cost of other swiss watches. Check out Jomashop or Ashford for insane deals on them.

[–] P-A-seaaaa@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Bought into the mido hype. Had an ocean star, imo worth saving a few hundred more dollars and getting into the next level of watches. Yea it was a solid watch but I wouldn’t say they are the most bang for your buck out there

[–] noescapess@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What would you say is a good upgrade from Mido?

[–] matchooooh@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] P-A-seaaaa@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think Christopher Ward is much better quality personally, there’s some others that are just a few hundred more expensive they are significantly nicer watches. Farer makes nice watches. Even slightly more expensive is into the Oris and Longines territory, both very prominent brands

[–] Alypius754@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I had a hard time choosing between the Ocean Star and the C60. I loved the ceramic on the CW (much deeper blue) but for some reason the lightsaber hands on the Mido won me over.

[–] VietBrah@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’m curious, what was missing for you? What does the additional couple hundred get you that the Mido doesn’t have?

[–] rvdp66@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I am looking and conquests and ocean stars and they look way more Wirth the cash than the 4k equivalents you find having said that please check out baltic, lorier and traska. Not quite the same because of the movement and some material choices but damn do they deliver value.

[–] JackTwoGuns@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I paid like 425 for my Mido Clou De Paris which is a Chronometer certified watch. Super nice finishing on the bracelet. Solid daily driver watch for me.

Absolutely considering a 200c in the near future

[–] FlipMick@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yes. They are an incredible deal right now. My Decompression World Timer is just as accurate as my Omega. It's even got more complications...

[–] cgknight1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Are they somehow out of fashion?

SWATCH concentrates its brands in different markets - Mido they put a lot of emphasis on in non-western markets which is why you often see little chat in English language forums.

[–] TheModerateGenX@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Bang for the buck is very subjective in the watch world

love that bracelet

I paid $360 for my Multifort (C07.611), nice dial, great lume, and has been running +3s/day. I can't complain.

[–] TangoQuebecEcho@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I have an Oceanstar decompression timer gmt world time. And I really love it. Great watch. Has that little something special in the design. It has an interesting movement. Jumping hour hand. And it is running within +2spd which is much better than some of my more expensive watches.

I concur with ops sentiment

[–] Von_Lehmann@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Mido is awesome, I tried on their ocean star heritage and I really wish I bought it instead of a seiko

[–] NUaroundHere@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

the amount of snobbery here... as usual

TLDR: it's a kind of a rant below, sorry. But Mido, Longines, tissot, etc are very good watches, well built and many people just diss on them to feel superior.

Despite what many people want to make you believe, in this world and economy, if your watch cost as much or more than many people's wages, it IS a luxury item. Then you enter the discussion of "entry level luxury", "mid level" or "high end luxury" which is a vision forced by this industry to justify abhorrent high prices and to endorse the need to show your status from very high income people. This might hurt some people but it is what it is.

Sure I can admit that there are some watches that are pieces of art built by hand and have a tremendous engineering process. I can understand some of these watches costing thousands. Then throw out some precious metal or gems to the mix and then bang!, we're talking hundreds of thousands... add a limited edition and now we have millions! I'm cool with that. But now we're in the same territory of those guys who eat steak bathed in gold and stuff like that. Just stuff that very rich people do and/or buy to reinforce their status or just because they're bored.

The problem is when this vision is forced upon all of us. "wow that powermatic 80 shit", "mido, tissot, longines aren't worth it and are all shit"... such fucking toxic nonsense is just baffling... sorry to break that to you guys but your Rolexes, Panerais, AP, Pateks that you use to shit on other less expensive brands aren't worth what you paid for them.

"oh some parts are made in China so it's trash"... even if this is true, I hate to break it to you but a lot of high end goods (technology, furniture, clothing etc) all have some sort of production in China and other countries alike. Still doesn't affect their quality.

In the end you enjoy what you enjoy and I'm cool with that. You can and you spend 20-50k on a watch, ok. I'm happy for you. Just don't go dissing on other brands (and by association what other people can or not afford).

I own a Mido Multifort Titanium. It's actually my favorite watch, I wear it more than anything else I have, but I would not recommend it or the brand. It's actually broken at the moment, and I'm about to send it for repair for the 4th time since owning. I've had 2 separate issues with the crown (not screwing down, and not manual winding) in addition to twice it just stopped running, like right now.

Obviously this might not reflect everyone's experience with Mido, I might just have a dud. It socks because it is my favorite to wear (when it's running 🏃‍♀️)

Mido is really bringing the heat. The bracelets leave a little to be desired but, can you really complain at the price point? So they use pins... So does the iconic 1st gen planet ocean all the way to Patek which is who we should really be wagging our finger at.

[–] feelin_raudi@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Ocean Star GMT is my daily. Love this watch. *

[–] Milestailsprowe@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I like the TV Watch but the rest dont speak to me

[–] naripan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I think so too. Mido is a well made watch.

[–] BeKind_BeTheChange@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Absolutely yes. I have a Mido certified chronometer that I got for $375 as a discontinued model. It's beautiful and I love it.

I owned this Mido Multifort GMT and it was an absolute stunner of a watch. I think Mido has more popularity overseas than it does in the US.

[–] xpulse101x@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Mido Ocean Star has the best bracelet, even compared to luxury watches. The quick adjustment is simple and genius.

[–] niceboyonline@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The new Multifort TV Big Date is beaaaaaaautiful.

I love my Ocean Star. Great piece for the money. I’ve spent more on watches and gotten less from a spec standpoint.

Just got the Mido Ocean Star GMT for my dad from Nordstrom for 900 bucks. What a steal. Looks great on him and feels super solid. I also loved the clasp.
