Match events should probably mention the Palace goal.

[–] sociableninja@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Vicario has turned out to be a gem

Between him, Maddison, Van der Ven, and Johnson, Spurs have had a great transfer window

If you forget Conte's terrorism, Sarr and Bissouma are like new signings too

If you forget Conte's terrorism

I've been trying but I think my brain needs bleach

[–] SuicidalTurnip@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I hate to say it, but so far I think Spurs have had the best transfer window. Maddison alone was an absurd bit of business, but they've just improved everywhere.

0 days since the last VAR shitshow

[–] PM_ME_YOUR_TANG@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

We're going to be hearing "first time since '61" quite a bit

[–] GeraldJimes_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

It's pretty incredible how fortunate Tottenham have been so far this season, but I guess as the old adage goes, good things come to those who mate.

[–] Jaksiel@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yes. We were very fortunate that Palace avoided 4 yellow cards in the first half and didn't have an obvious handball goal disallowed. Good point.

[–] lambast@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You've been getting deflected goals all season you stupid cunt

[–] fedfan4life@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Own goal isn't luck. Maddison put in a good ball in the box that was too fast for the defender to react properly. Richarison was ready behind the defender for the tap in.

[–] ndennies@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Ref saw the check clear from Pep at the 90th minute and tried his best to get Palace a point.

In all seriousness, horrible refereeing there. Good resilience from Spurs in what was a frustrating game for them. Johnson was fantastic.

Sarrrrrr dude

he is immense. i get the feeling we don't fully appreciate what he does on the pitch for us

[–] Fleaaa@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Stepping up every single match

[–] Jowoes@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Almost shed a tear when I saw him sprinting down the right wing in the 90th minute

[–] Zeddsdeadbaby@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Tottenham have a fucking midfield

Moaning aside — how did Bentancur do?

[–] hungoverseal@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Looked confident, hard to say much more than that.

Gary Neville on Sky Sports being an absolute bellend about Spurs right now

Hope he eats his word s

Just saying that Spurs have no chance of winning the league or even of being a contender for it, generally downplaying how good we've been and painting it as an aberration.

Gary Neville being a prat as usual...

[–] FriendlyGhost08@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You won't challenge. Half of your fans are saying a title challenge should not be the expectation. Gary is annoying sometimes but he's right about that. It's 10 games in.

[–] ddottay@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

We need better fullbacks

how was there not a SINGLE card in that entire match?!?

[–] bruiser95@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

How did that goal stand? At least two angles where the handball was obvious

[–] FoulObelisk@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

i know it's pretty much impossible, but it would be hilarious if spurs win it this year just after kane left

[–] IgotAseaView@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I know it’s pretty much impossible, but it would be hilarious if we could go one match thread without someone commenting this same comment after Kane left

[–] EmotionalPopeBalls@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

We won't ever get a match thread without it. But what if we did? Nah, its impossible.

Unless...

[–] FoulObelisk@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

i'm sorry this is happening to you.

[–] El_Producto@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If Spurs lose enough games it'll happen.

Long may it continue.

[–] RamBracken@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It would be even more hilarious if bayern don't win the league. If that actually happens I'd retire if i were kane. Maybe get into golf like bale did

He be the first academy player to score a FG at the stadium.

[–] milesvtaylor@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Unlucky Stuart Attwell, wanker.

[–] RefreshingLymenade@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm not a Tottenham fan, but as a Chaotic Liverpool one I love this. Kane leaving has them on top 😆

[–] HowtoHaveaGoodName@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Same. If Liverpool can’t win the league then love seeing spurs win it because it’s interesting.

[–] Ok_Operation_17@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Is there a single player in the league that can put sprint Van De Ven? Seriously he absolutely blows by everyone he's gone against.

[–] airz23s_coffee@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The Haaland/VDV battle is gonna be genuinely fascinating

[–] tspcoys@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Was thinking how on earth are palace trying to counter when none of their attackers can outrun Van de Ven.

Observations. I expect to be downvoted to hell because dear lord there are a lot of you Spurs fans on here.

VAR on Ayew's goal wasn't a clear and obvious error on the ref's behalf, hence not being called to the monitor. Surely we all know this now, right?

First half, I think that Palace made Spurs look average. The possession stats vs every other stat were bonkers. We missed the chance to take advantage and, of course, contrived to fuck it up for ourselves.

Once that first goal went in, it enabled Spurs to invite the high press which resulted (alongside a 'keeper brain fart) in the inevitable second. After that, the result was in the book, despite the additional intensity at the end.

Van der Ven is fucking rapid and is a genuine game changer for Spurs - top drawer defender.

For us, we're playing with what we can right now. Targeting Ward down the right remains an obvious play for opposition teams because he doesn't have Ayew doing the dirty work in front of him.

First half, a point would have been deserved. Second half, Spurs were very clever after they took the lead and, as much as I hate to say it, deserved the win.

Thank goodness we have some class to come back in to the side in the near future.

I expect to be downvoted to hell

Upvotes for you, I’ll never meet your expectations

[–] plasticmotives@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Are you me? I had the same conversation with my dad last week, despite my being middle aged! Without the upvote bit, though. That would have been weird.

[–] Lewsberg@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Spurs look average

They are and everyone will agree soon enough

[–] carllerche@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Is there a link to the VAR? I was watching the game live and the replay was not clear at all to me, but I wouldn't mind examining it again.

[–] TheTackleZone@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I thought Palace played well, and especially in the first half began to get worried that AngeBall had been worked out. The width of the 3 midfielders made it hard to go through or round with areas squeezed out. We def missed Udogie's involvement and no shade on Ben but we looked better with Royal there.

People are not talking about him so maybe it's just me but I thought that Will Hughes was fkn immense in that game. He may look like a bargain bin Santa but he really ran the Palace midfield and was so good in driving the team forward. I think with Bissouma having to be careful not to get a yellow and miss the Chelsea game it really gave Hughes the licence to be physical.

I'm pretty pissed off with Ayew's tackling, especially in the first half. I'm all for physical games as I think it makes the sport better, but he was far too often just going in on the back of player's legs. It was cynical and pathetic and the ref should have booked him earlier after it happened the 3rd time.

Disagree on the VAR tho. The angle of the ball when it comes off his chest (no arm at this point) is going diagonally to the right (from the goalside cam). When it gets to where his wrist is then it sharply changes direction to be going down and to the left. It also has a lot more spin on it. No idea how VAR didn't catch that quickly (btw clear and obvious in only for when VAR wants to intervene on a mistake / miss by the ref, not for checking things like this).

Had enough London teams for the entire season. Who are we playing next?

[–] 13blacklodgechillin@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Man, as a chelsea fan, I've never liked Spurs. But, if they somehow manage to win the league over arsenal, I would laugh so hard but also really enjoy that.
