Hermes and Gucci need to go to the bottom.

I don't have a timex but now I have to go buy one because the list says so. Any recommendations?

High prices in most anything creates exclusivity. Cars, clothes, watches etc. Decide who you are first, then pick a watch. If keeping up with the Jones and wanting to be seen as successful in the eyes of others is the goal, then go big, you’ve earned it. As someone who was had a lot of nice watches etc, it always leaves you wanting more and the nicest watch seems always not enough, so you end up on a endless pursuit of more and more. Took me a long time to realize that didn’t make me happy and no one really cares. Back to watches, Breitling and Omega depending on models seem to have very good options at some lower price points for your tier. Unless you are driving a nice car, dress fancy etc, most people are going to think your Rolex is fake anyways. And honestly, it took me a long time to realize that no one really cares which watch I wear, 99% of people don’t even pay attention whether I’m wearing a Rolex or timex. Buy something you think looks good and you like, because in the end 99% don’t care and have no idea what it is anyways haha. Best of luck

Ahm maybe a lil old school here but:

Save for the watch you want? ,if you absolutely don’t want an apple watch , spend 1k on the nicest watch you can buy and Save for the watch of your dreams, anything less will not be fulfilling.

IMO timex should be in the good value tier. Also I would put GS in the second tier. They have some of the most innovative movements in the whole industry and they are in the same range as Cartier and omega for a lot of their watches

"I'm so edgy haha guys hot take: Hublot is in the last bracket LOL hilarious amirite??"

Upper middle class? Timex. Go ahead and grab a pair of new balance JAZZ.

I like how four of these categories are just a different version of way too expensive

[–] kosnosferatu@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

There are degrees though!

Good quality but too much money to be responsible

Superb quality but never in hell

Cool watches but just a bit too expensive for what they provide

Quality vs cost is out of whack

I love Doxas but I think their value to price is horrible. They should be like half to 2/3 the price.

Where does Sinn fit into this?

[–] bueno_hombre@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I get it’s polarizing, but I cannot fathom someone thinking Grand Seiko isn’t the best quality watch you can get at it’s given pricepoint

[–] kosnosferatu@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I was wrong about GS.

[–] Desperate_Mistake_81@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So your price range is clear through this analysis. Don’t knock great brands because of that

[–] kosnosferatu@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I mean, yes, that's why it's a list about what an upper middle class person with responsibilities should buy and not a watch list of pure quality (the trinity would just be at the top plus ALS) or brands with great marketing (rolex)

How is Cartier consistently great and innovative? Just ten years ago their catalog was full of shopping mall watches with any single mechanical watch to be seen. Cartier has turned it around remarkably in the last few years but they certainly weren’t “consistent”

[–] Pieniek23@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don't have my glasses, is Nomos included in the list?

[–] RodrigoSanschaise2@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Broken record here but Nomos needs to be next to Tudor.

[–] fede_run@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Everyone always forgets about Rado 🥲

[–] Shakeyfly@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Something practical

[–] datatadata@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wouldn’t call JLC, Cartier and Omega “innovative” lol. What did they innovate in the past year for example?

[–] kosnosferatu@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Didn't Omega just release their spirate system that allows for accuracy of 0 to 2 seconds a day essentially halving rolex's superlative chronometer?

[–] IAmSportikus@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I wouldn’t consider grand seiko FU prices. Not rolex, unless you are considering secondary. But obviously good luck finding one at msrp.

[–] mitchrubin09@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I like Gucci watches, lol.

[–] AirlineEasy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

As an owner of a Casio, Timex, Seiko, Citizen and a Bulova, I like this list. Also, no Orient?
