Omega is overpriced for what they offer now

Whatever catches your eye man.....
The weird reality is, for non watch nerds (which is 99% of people), the only brand they probably recognize as expensive is Rolex. So if care about what other people think, it really only comes down to Rolex or nothing.
Damn; Piaget catching strays. I’ve always loved their designs. These lists are fun to debate haha
Junghans has beautiful watches in the $1k budget.
Sinn? Or some cool microbrands?
How is omega innovative? Maybe 20 years ago…
I think chopard is underrated as a brand, but a little overpriced.
Wear what you like and show it off though! I respect watch collectors who wear things outside the circlejerk that can be this subreddit sometimes.
Sinn goes into the interesting but over priced. Gucci and Ferragamo have no place in this list, or maybe another tier with more designer fashion brands like CK, MK, etc. Yet another for designer fashion 2 like Chanel and Montblanc?
Id argue that Sinn belongs in Value for money. Lots of their pieces cover niches that most other companies do not which I think partially justifies the prices. Quality is definitely there too. I guess their only downfall would be that some of (if not all?) their watches don’t have in house movements but that bothers some more than others.
Disclaimer: I own a Sinn 556 so i am completely biased
Where is Glashuette Original
the only thing worth arguing is how stupid watch tier lists are and why do ppl insist on creating one.
Agree mainly but imo bulova, dox and fc should be moved down 1
I've had two Seiko and Casio that I've had for 23 years and they work beautifully.
I also have a Prodiver I got that's been on numerous dives and excels at the function it was made for. Cheap, automatic thrills when diving. Was well worth the money.
Brands matter less and less (though I appreciate lineage and craftsmanship) as the prices keep going up for the same time.
I have a Timex my son got me that I'll wear until I die.
Nomos?
Mido/Oris/Tissot/Longines
Seiko should be “just buy one” imo
I love that three of the categories are the same :P
It's a lot marketing obviously, but if anything Rolex has the best argument if any except maybe AP and Patek to be considered underpriced.
They consistently sell out and could clearly sell most of their watches for more money and still sell out. That's essentially the definition of something that's under market price.
Wrong about IWC Zenith Tag and Gucci
My only criticism is that Citizen should be up there with Casio and Timex.
Great value: Glycine Airman. Rich heritage with Vietnam pilots and Pete Conrad with Gemini 5 and 11
Don’t understand the hate for Richard Mille or Hublot.
There’s a lot to unpack here. There are so many things to argue with. And value is what you are willing to pay for it, etc.
But honestly that’s being silly. This list doesn’t matter in the least and it’s a fun thought experiment.
In the spirit of your post, I’m going to say that IWC should move down one and Chopard up at least one — personally I would put it on the FU prices row, though the fact is you should never pay list for a Chopard. Breitling I would absolutely put on the FU row, this sub is strange in its contempt for the brand, and you also should never pay list for one.
I won’t risk my neck by saying where I think Tudor should go.
Ulysse Nardin is… I think they do fascinating yet hideous mechanical things and are basically what Hublot wants to be when it grows up. And therefore should be on the bottom row unless you’re realllllly into mermaid pornography you wear on your body.
AP is almost impossible to even truly place on this list, i would almost put them in the bottom row were it not for their tradition and still being family-owned (if not for the Royal Oak they probably wouldn’t be). I also think AP doesn’t give two figs what we think of them down here in the cheap seats lol.
I respect JLC but am struggling to consider them innovative, not in 2023.
The “Super but cost too much” row should be named “I think Monsieur has mistakenly entered the wrong establishment. Shall I call security or a taxi?”
No Balls?
The good thing that this post has pointed out is that there are a ton of options for value for money. Other comments have mentioned Oris and Orient. Im partial to Sinn.
Idk piaget fucks pretty much agree with everything else
Invicta is absolutely the best value for the money hands down and you can’t get a 56mm SpongeBob watch anywhere else. GET OFF MY LAWN.
For me Omega sits firmly in the “Interesting but overpriced category”
Edit: At retail prices
In a world where Rolex, Hublot and so many others sell, Zenith is far from overpriced.
I really like this list. You’re great value for the money list has all of my go to brands in there. I’d consider adding Alpina. Now that citizen owns it they are mainstreaming it as their higher end adventure brand. Some of their watches are a good value.
Tag heuer is worth the price if you really like it, but I wouldn’t call it a value.
I suspect I will get some flak for this, but I like Ball as an up and coming brand entry level luxury brand. I would put them under a unique and innovative niche brand, but I wouldn’t call it a value.
Wife bought me an Alpina Chronograph as an engagement present on a leather band, and then found me the bracelet later :) it gets lots of wrist time, but it's also my only real watch since my vintage Universal Geneve was broken
Upper middle class is where Rolex shines.
This is so good. A very sound assessment..
As an upper middle class professional with responsibilities who, like you, have an aversion to overt displays of wealth, I find myself wearing my Hamilton and Mido far more than anything else in my collection.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my Oris and it gets weekly wrist time, but I sometimes find even that is “too much”, and I’m not talking about price.
Don’t forget about Marathon!
Where's Orient?
I understand the hate on invicta but my prodiver is the one that gets the most wrist time.
Personally, my Tag Aquaracer has been worth it for me. Got it under retail.
My g-shock is my rock so right there with you. Bulova and Citizen were my entry watches so we’re still good. You’re losing me with Tag because I bought two Carreras last year and they are awesome. Bought the Tudor BB ceramic that is almost 2x the price the of a Carrera shortly after and had to replace the band because it was somehow sized for a child? but otherwise an awesome piece (much love for rubber b bands). I think Zenith and Hublot have great designs but whoa $$$ and comparing Hublot to Movato will make JC Biver come for you in the night and you don’t want his bed time stories but dude is hilarious in person when in a good mood. I won’t buy a Rolex until I’m old if ever.
Edit: where Panerai? Italian naval enthusiasts will be upset.
I'd move Zenith and Breitling up to "Great value for money", and move Panerai to "Interesting but overpriced".
The El Primero movement is a legend and worthy of honor; heck, the Chronosport out-Datona's the Daytona. And the B01 movement by Breitling is spectacular engineering and there a lot of great Breitling models that offer terrific value. These 2 are head and shoulders above Tissot, for example, also placed in that tier.
Lastly, you need to add Alpina in the Great value for money tier.
Sinn?
Pop orient on the great value for money line.
Cartier 😂
I have the Tag Heuer Monaco on my wishlist as I am collecting watches that were in movies and this one has a great history in that direction. I havent yet gone into more research about it but could you tell me why Tag Heuer was put in that tier?
Chopard should be in the fine watchmaking at FU prices
