A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

I have a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with a Canon 24-70 2.8 lens on it as my standard lens and then also a Canon 17-40 4.0 lens and the small Canon 50mm 1.8 prime lens with me. I am going to Japan on a holiday and I want to have a convenient bag or carrier, where I can quickly take out and put back my camera and not have too much hassle switching lenses. Before this I would have my stuff in a camera bag that was in my backpack and I would have to take everything out and back in for a single photo. Maybe something around the waist would be convenient. What's your advice?

I’m a big fan of Lowepro Flipsides. Currently using a Flipside 200AW II because my trusty old 400 AW the inner velcro strips started disintegrating and leave plastic bits after every reconfiguration. The bag itself is still in great shape after 10 years.

If you consider backpacks, look for one with side opening to quickly access camera compartment. I have Brevite Jumper and it's very convenient for daily carry. Should fit all this gear, but might be a bit too small for travel.

I use a PD everyday Zip 20L. But do pack in a small sling for light days too. Maybe a Wotancraft Pilot 7L

Definitely a sling bag. The backpack with the side opening is bet6than what you have, but the zipper honestly takes too long. This is exasperated if you're traveling with someone and want to grab a quick photo.

Backpack with the side pouch let's you carry other stuff and is more secure and normally more discrete. If you go this route I recommend wandrd provoke bag. Have it and love it. The peak design bag is very nice too.

I should note a sling can start to hurt your shoulder on a long day, esp if you throw a water bottle in there or other things. I have a timbuk2 bag, but they apparently don't sell it anymore ("snoop")
