Running/Walking improves your mental health so much. I went from being down in the dumps regularly to being quite upbeat most of the time.

Yeah if you're out of shape just go for some walks. I have a dog so I have to take 3 walks a day. I could just take her to a patch of grass but she needs exercise too so I at least take her around the neighborhood.

All that to say, those little walks are sometimes the only part of the day where I can think and process my thoughts. I highly recommend going without headphones for that reason.

If you hate your sofa, get a huskie.

I run frequently but sometimes I feel super low energy and the motivation isn’t there. Then my mood worsens when I stop running. Despite how it feels, once I force myself to finally go on a run, my mood improves instantly and I have to hold onto that to remind myself why it’s best to keep it as a regular habit.

It really, really makes a difference.

For what it's worth the weather getting nice enough to pull my bike out has at least pulled the little switch in my head from 'let's lay here in the fetal position' to 'let's go out and fucking do something today'.

Like, me and my dog are taking a hike today. Completely unrelated and something I could've done a month ago but doing a bit of exercise cleared a mental hurdle for me.

Running can do wonders to your mental health, but you need to start as soon as the people who make you depressed try to start a conversation with you.

What if you're the person yourself?

Run faster. Soon all you can think about is how much it hurts to keep running.

Run head straight into a brick wall

The lost IQ points from doing this will probably gradually contribute to improved general mood over time.

Can focus on being sore instead of whatever you were depressed about.

Legitimately.

That's too damn bad!

[–] M137@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

Finally, som advice that actually works!

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 12 points 1 year ago

It does help a lot, but as you get more fit, you'll find you have to push yourself harder to get the good feelings. Now I'll be in the middle of a jog and find myself getting distracted by anxieties if I'm not pushing myself hard enough.

Still always worth through, even if my legs constantly hurt now lol.

That would be $249.99 please

I do plenty of cardio in the form of Beat Saber. 😤

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 1 points 1 year ago

I get nausea before i get some cardio going.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m always envious of the fatties, lording their capacity for adipose development over and around me. Meanwhile, I eat an uncomfortable amount to simply maintain my weight while doing cardio. I’d trade metabolisms any day.

[–] Case@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 1 year ago

As someone who used to be skinny, and now, decidedly, isn't....

I'd take metabolism any day. That being said, I do have a friend who struggles to keep weight up due to a medical issue. Taking that dude to an all you can eat buffet is almost traumatizing, lol.
