As the title states: I have made a few improvements and wanted to share!

  • Red LED strip for the case on the bottom

  • A new Crucial 1TB SSD for my NAS

  • Cut a piece of plywood to act as a tabletop for the rack. I plant on applying some clear lacquer to protect the wood and make it look a little nicer

  • Bought a new server! (IBM System X3550 M4 - 2x Xeon E5-2640 (8C 16T each) - 32GB of memory)

  • Found a cheap little monitor on Kijiji and threw it on the rack to make imaging easier. (For other servers and devices that don’t have a management module.)

I found a decently priced 32GB (2x16) memory kit for the X3550 that I ordered. Still on the hunt for more memory and caddies. Also figuring out a purpose for the Asustor NAS. Open to suggestions if anyone has any. As always please give suggestions if you feel like it! Thank you for reading :)

P.S: I think it’s time for a proper network diagram next!

Haven’t seen much IBM servers used. And nice setup too.
