I actually believe the majority of people don't actually want money or freedom as their first priority, what they want is status. They want to feel like they are above someone else. If you think of how thousands of years ago, a king couldn't have all of the cuisine in the world, he couldn't have a smart phone or car, internet, or the convenience of the modern world. What people want is relative to what other people around them have.
Money is just freedom coupons. 🦅
We are all slaves until we buy our freedom.
What about those people that have the money to buy their freedom but still choose not to?

Freedom. To generate passive income is the goal for almost all entrepreneurs until we get old and have nothing to do then we get back into working our business and staying busy. Eventually mentoring either others or our kids in the same field.
No it's not. Very far from it.
They aren’t the same, but you need one to acquire the other. Freedom leads.
Freedom is a lie, nothing is free. It even costs money to make money.
Some people who want money want freedom, others want power and status.
Everyone’s definition of freedom and success is different. For me, I just want time freedom and freedom from being tethered to a 9-5 income. I don’t personally want to be a millionaire, I’d be comfortable making what I make now if I were to run my own business. As long as I could do whatever I want whenever I wanted from wherever I wanted.
As an entrepreneur myself who worked my ass off during my corporate job a few years ago, I was chasing freedom first. But then I love money. So I used money to chase my freedom. It's one hell of a ride, but it was all worth it. I now have the money while enjoying my freedom. I remember there was this article that I always read whenever I thought of those times. Money is a byproduct of success, power, freedom and respect which is what I really want.

I don’t think it’s just freedom. Not everyone wants to change their geographical location often.
I think money is just a commodity that can help you get what you want. The problem is not a lot of people have a clear understanding of what they want.
If you have money you can take your family on vacations. But if you are constantly working chasing the money then you won’t have the time to take your family on vacations.
Some people are after the power or status that comes with money. I once overheard a conversation between two girls in a bus in South America. They were talking about traveling and the possibility of living somewhere else. It was obvious that they were from a high class in the country. One girl said “I prefer to have less here and be someone than having more in another country and be a nobody” (sorry if the meaning is lost in translation). She cared more about status than money itself or possessions.
Only a few people are not after money. But those of us who are rarely share the same core reasons for wanting it
The problem is not a lot of people have a clear understanding of what they want.
This is exactly what I see on this sub. People claim to want something but do things that don't align with what they claim they want.
I think everyone wants status in some way or another. No one aspires to be below average. Better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond.
You'll be happier earning $100k in a community where most earn half that than earning $200k where everyone else is earing $500k. In the later case, you'll feel like a loser.
We all compare oursleves to others around us. That's why average Americans complain about income inequality despite them being among the richest people in the world.
Conditions change depending on where you live. Cost of living is real. If you work 40 hours a week on minimum wage in the US you are going to have a hard time making ends meet. It’s a fallacy to say that you shouldn’t complain just because someone will have a great life with your salary.
A lot of people are not after status. Specially those who are struggling to survive. You should really take a look at Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Living in a rich country doesn’t automatically mean all your needs are met. Specially in the US where healthcare and education is so expensive. Those are things that literally get people bankrupt. People have plenty of reasons to complain. The rich keep on getting rich without paying living wages to their employees. That’s just exploitation
Same thing. Money = freedom.
A friend of mine said something very poignant recently: "Financial freedom is not being able to do whatever you want to do. It's being able to say no to anything you don't want to do."
For me it's more about freedom... Money means almost nothing

Sufficient amount of money, peace of mind and free time - people want calm peace in their lives with little worries.

For me it is freedom and the money for helping others, or making the right decisions. I mean I dont need a Ferrari but I like cars that acutally go if you hit the accelerator.

I love this question and freedom is the answer. I previously worked a job that made me the most financially comfortable I have ever been in my life. But I HATED that job, I had no work/life balance and I was miserable.
I now make a modest salary at a nonprofit. But generally,I have a lot of autonomy, my work/life balance is significantly improved, and I am a lot happier. I have more freedom now and I love it way more than when I had more money.
I do aspire still to go off on my own though and be an entrepreneur at some point.
Freedom for sure, working because you want to not because you need to.
Entrepreneurs will say constantly that you should be hungry for as much money as possible
I've been in business for nearly 30 years on and off and have never ever heard this advice. Literally never. You might be down a path of bad advice if this is what you are hearing.
There will be those who say having their own business is freedom. Slaving for Money isn’t true freedom because you will never have enough. Your own business requires more time, effort & sacrifice for success. So no freedom there. You work to support yourself or family. There is no freedom there. There will always be responsibility and someone to answer to. So the concept of Freedom is a lie.

Wife and I do very well but I’m still plugging away on side projects so that one eventually makes it and can replace my corporate job. Once I can replace my salary 2 years in a row the wife says she’s good to fully drop the corporate world.
Freedom is a product, and you can buy it at a certain level of money.
That level, is determined by you. How fancy of a "free" live you want to live. You can live freely in bali for super cheap, but if you wanna travel all the time you'll need more. You get the jist.
Personally, I want to earn lots of money to spend on jets and yachts -- but to live my daily life with no concerns of money. Booking flights to a friends wedding, taking my wife on nice dinners, buying gifts for my friends and family.
For that "freedom" product, I am willing to sell many hours of my time. It's worth it.
I would say freedom: I have been creating different companies for 35 years now; large ones and small ones and most of them have been because I believed the products we made had to exist. Luckily sometimes others thought so too! But even if they didn’t sell, I never stopped; I believed. Creating things that I believe should exist is not what everyone can do ; I had the luck that my first two products were hits, but very accidentally so; I never did (or do) anything with market research etc; I just built what I thought was needed, popped it into the market and hoped for the best. That is freedom, and it’s so much fun that I hope to do this for at least another 35 years.
What you are looking for is not money. That is why ultra rich people keep .... working. The road to success never ends. Success, beating the competition, betting all you have even at old age to have success. and not people around to give you a pat in the back. not even a trophy wife. it is your success at accomplishing, learnings beating the learning process and then the others in doing it quietly, and YOU KNOW it is yours (and your team) The Road to success is ALWAYS under construction.
Freedom with money
Money is just a medium. Amongst many other things, it can result in more freedom :)
