As the title says, I’m making a home lab and have these two cpus laying around, my question is is which would be better for a home lab, would having the extra 2 cores be beneficial?

If you're going to use this for a hypervisor then definitely the six cores. If you had at least six cores then I would say you want to go with the higher single core performance especially if you do stuff like compiling.

The Intel probably has lower power consumption at idle. But if that isn't a big concern for you then I would go with the ryzen because more cores

Also, there may be big motherboard differences that might sway you to one or the other. Like better expansion capability.
