Casual attitude as markets fall suggests man detached from anxieties of ordinary voters – and surrounded by yes men

After lighting a fuse under global financial markets, Donald Trump stepped back – all the way to a Florida golf course.

Trump had spent the time in between golfing, dining with donors and making insouciant declarations such as “this is a great time to get rich”, even as the US economy melted down.

It was a jolting juxtaposition that prompted comparisons with the emperor Nero, who fiddled while Rome burned.

“He’s at the peak of just not giving a fuck any more,” said a person close to his inner circle.

Why would he be stressed? He avoided prison and right now not only he is getting richer but he is surrounded by people who suck him off. All the while he plays golf for free.

Worse, he is paying himself to golf with our money at his courses.

He doesnt golf to relax. He holds with people who he don't want to meet in official capacity, and then he makes the government pay 40x times the going rate to have secret service stay at his resort when he is golfing.

It is just yet another cash grab.

He doesn't even get the adrenaline rush of racing the golf cart around or taking it off any sweet jumps.

I am amazed that there is no method or willingness to stop this deranged, vengeful idiot. Balance of power indeed. 250 years was a good run though. No outside Vandals or Barbarians like in Rome's fall, just an insider guy with delusions of grandeur and hurt feelings.

He is a jackass. Nothing more to say.

Why the Hands Off protest unfortunately accomplished nothing. Bet 100 dollars he never even heard it happen. Since he was golfing that day. Bet his handlers made sure of it.

So we need to take the fucking protest to his fucking golf course. 5 million people there would get his attention.

“They are hungry? Let them play golf!”

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Let them eat at the turn!

Rome is burning, and Ceasar is fiddling.

Nero fiddled while Rome burned.

Because I misremembered the phrase.

But it's right there in the post...

[–] harmsy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I didn't read that far down.

But the salad is great.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 15 points 1 day ago

I don't think we should normalize misgendering somebody as an insult. He's a fascist, not a woman or trans person.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

He still could be a queen.

[–] annette_runner@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That’s God Emperor Trump, Tremendous Monarch of The Holy Empire of America.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How about would-be despot?

[–] annette_runner@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Why “would-be”? He’s the premier of the free world.

What about Supreme Leader, Dear Leader, or Grand Marshal?
