Wemby has been a monster in the 4th quarters so far this season, the difference in efficiency between his play in the first 3 quarters and the clutch is astonishing

It’s been a consistent pattern so far. Like every single game. He starts passive and slow offensively then turns it on for the 4th. I can only attribute it to nerves. However he’s been consistently good on the defensive end.

I don't think it's nerves. I think it's unselfishness to a fault. He clearly isn't demanding the ball or jacking shots. He's playing away from the basket, trying to get guys involved, and isn't being fed as a focal point.

He seems bought into the team concept and just doesn't know how to affect things on offense without the ball yet.

In the 4th quarter, he takes it more into his own hands.

He will level up soon when he realizes he should be 20% more selfish.

Definately doesn’t help that his team seems to largely ignore him, and seemingly just want to “cook” themselves

Good and bad sign. You want him to do it the whole game BUT at least he's delivering when it matters, and that's as a rookie. Can't wait till he can use his body to his advantage even more and gets more polished

Wym by when it matters. The first 3 quarters factor into the scores. The 4th is 1 out of 4 quarters. How the hell does it matter more? If you get a lead early you don’t have to be “clutch”.

He just takes 3 quarters to warm up nbd

[–] the_alert@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s Messi-ing

[–] forecastcriminal@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He’s not aiming for ROTY, he’s coming for Clutch Player of the Year

The most prestigious title

I feel like by the 4th quarter of every game Sochan is pulled and they let Tre Jones run an actual NBA offense

[–] MayCCC33@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

i feel like sochan is a great secondary passer but running him at PG isn’t gonna work. there was a pass me made the elbow today late in the game that rly exemplified that

[–] VeniceRapture@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think it's because the 4th is when the Wemby at center lineups start showing up

[–] clayfu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

In the fourth the guards stop ignoring him

[–] MrRonRodeo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The problem is the offence is not run by “the guards” until the 4th

[–] Next-Firefighter-753@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You would like to see the 3 quarters numbers jump up but 80% in the 4th is extremely promising

[–] bb1432@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'd like to see him play 30 minutes a game with an actual point guard

Nope. We’re stealth tanking this year and calling it a player development year. After we had all the turnovers in the first in the suns game and pop is on the sidelines talking about: “y’all are just young and learning each other. Calm down and keep playing defense.” That’s when I knew for sure he doesn’t care what happens on offense and just vibe.

This whole year is gonna be sochan learning the point and nothing else. Just mentally prepare yourself now.

Question as someone who doesn’t watch Spurs a ton, does SAS really see Sochan as their future PG? Or is this more of a stop gap to develop him into a secondary ball handler and draft or acquire your starter PG down the road ?

[–] fartalldaylong@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They see a defense first PG who is 6'8" being someone who can be physical early and limit other teams from getting into plays. Lot's of learning to see that effort mature.

[–] fartalldaylong@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wemby has his own exercise session focused on screens. He had multiple plays in a row where all he did was run around setting different screens. These games are nothing more than live practice for individuals and the team.

Yeah from the outside it looks like Pop's long term vision of Sochan is to turn him into a Diaw type of player (or I suppose more like Draymond, considering the rest of his game) whilst also understanding that those minutes will lead the Spurs to another high lottery pick. On a roster that clearly needs another foundational piece or four.

If this Sochan stuff works out there's probably 3(?) starters on this team when you decide to really try to build and win? Wemby, Vassell, and Sochan? Get that fourth in the draft, have all those picks, flexible contracts, a shit ton of cap and now you're cooking.

Clutch player of the year

[–] LoveMavs1031@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

From what I’ve seen Wemby looks more active in the 4th quarter compared to the previous three. As in the Spurs seem to make an effort to get him the ball more in the 4th.

[–] DeliciousPizza1900@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can’t coach that

[–] electricHats75@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s a closer

[–] ketoburn26@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s the reverse of last year’s Luka lol. Luka goes all out on the first and gassed in the 4th. Wemby being a rookie maybe contributes to the way he’s pacing himself going all in when it matters in the 4th. He’ll be more dominant as his body and experience comes along.

[–] ThatHotAsian@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Pop waiting to unleash him till the 4th. 4D chess.

[–] strollas@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Clutchby 🥶

[–] RealPrinceJay@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

In the 4th quarter tonight he actually played Center the entire time. The lineups with Collins have gone horribly.

[–] k1ngkoala@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just pass him the damn ball. Wemby flourishes so much with an actual point guard on the floor.
