My friend recently passed away. I need to talk with someone. I don't want to break down in front of anyone. Is there any humane LLM I can talk with? I don't want an LLM that tells me facts or suggestions. I just want to talk.

Please break down in front of someone. You need humans here, not robots.

Replika.ai. its an app or if you like you can use web interface.

i agree with combinator but if you need an on ramp to that i suggest pi.ai. it's not local but it's very kind.

I'm sure you could get gpt4 to be pretty great at this with either custom instructions or even just a well constructed prompt. I wouldn't expect any earth shattering insights from it the way you might hope from a great human therapist but it'll be better than sitting alone in it.

Ideally I agree you should try to connect with another human being on some level, maybe supplemented with an LLM.

I imagine in the future we will all have basically cheerleader copilot Ai's that go through our entire lives with us, geared towards bolstering resilience and positive attitude. Really could be amazing if done well

I don't know. Is it kind? It refused to discuss nuclear reactors. It means that it doesn't understand that we are going to die because of global warming, and it's absolutely essential to discuss less damaging energy sources. Refusing to discuss building a nuclear reactor is just a very evil move.

there are couple of humane chatbots/AI like replika or the fictional character.ai (and many others) where you can talk to characters that acts as a human, you can give it a try if you want and all the best

100% recommend the new voice conversation feature with chatGPT. It feels incredibly therapeutic.

Otherwise Samantha is really good.

But also. It's okay to break down, especially among others.

There is no way around ChatGPT, give it a custom prompt and turn on voice chat. It feels like you really talk to a friend.

First, I'm sorry for your loss. I just tried that pi.ai that have been suggested here, and I think is a good LLM/bot to talk to when you're frustrated.

But please, try to open with someone in real life too, don't bottle things up. LLMs are a great tool to express your feelings, but don't neglect contact with real persons, therapists can help.

Betterhelp

It costs less than ChatGPT and it's more private as the PERSON who you talk to has a legal obligation to keep your privacy

[–] timtulloch11@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

What do you mean cheaper than chatgpt? How do you calculate that? Better help isn't cheap at all.

Obviously I do agree this would be superior care

I can make you one but you would have to give me the material of what you want it to sound like.

[–] timtulloch11@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

What do you use for this? I'm trying to get started with training or fine tuning finally and not sure where to even begin. I've used oobabooga for inference quite a bit at this point but that's it for local LLM

[–] dethorin@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

There are a tons of psychologist, even online, that can work effectively the duel in just 3-4 sessions. The machines are not programmed to heal. Also, is more healing to speak loud, than to write what's on your mind.

Sorry for your loss and I understand those moments right afterward are so painful.

It's wise to look for something local, because those feelings are very personal. I can't recommend a model, per se, but you could definitely build a prompt that gets you 80-90% to where you want to go.

Obviously the best thing to do would be talk to a real therapist, but you / everyone already knows that.

Maybe Replika?

Pi is pretty good, sadly not local.

While I do agree that these LLMs can help (they have helped me in times of despair), once you feel a bit better and have had some time to process these emotions (using an LLM), I’d really encourage you re explore some of this with a human.

It’s important to not be dependant on these models id say.

Sorry for your loss, and RIP. Take care OP

Try a cat.

Robots only say what some corporate slob thought you want to hear.

[–] Feztopia@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Samantha Mistral probably (also it's ok to cry, I don't break down but that's my character you don't need to be the same).
