"...you know what the problem is with the CBC? Too much ethics and journalistic integrity."

Who... who is this for? Who wants this? Who hears this and goes "ah yes, this is, A: a real problem, and B: a useful solution to said problem."

Republicans. They want to be allowed to suppress the truth because it doesn't fit their narrative.

We don't have Republicans in Canada.

American conservatives are republicans now.

We have the very same thing.

We have conservatives, but they aren't called republicans.

So we're importing that from America now too? We can't even use Canadian words to describe Canadian people?

Call them whatever you like. "Fascist assholes" feels appropriate. Didn't check which community the post is in, tbh. Just seemed like a very Republican thing to do.

I get not checking which community you're in, but the idea of Republicans voting on the fate of the CBC is... strange!

Someone should remind them of that so they stop ~~aspiring~~ stooping to new lows.

Yeah sure, we should all just trust nonpartisan and totally unproblematic "news" sources like the Western Standard and Rebel News, isn't that correct, Ms. Tait?

Fuck these vultures trying to strip an incredibly valuable and highly ethical news source from Canadians. Their greed and partisan transparency would be laughable if it wasn't so frightening.

there's no greed in it. Their war on CBC is very real and for a very good reason: quality news and independence from shareholders/investors really threatens present day Conservatives' existence. US is their playbook where pretty much all news sources are reduced to billionaire's mouthpieces. If it's not Murdoch it's Bezos, etc. NPR is a drop in a bucket and they cannot afford to compete with Fox or CNN. So it's is not greed, it is control. Cons want the ability to domimate news space. With institution like CBC in place it is really difficult to achieve.

When Conservatives tell you who they are, believe them.

The state of US media is due to Reagan yanking the Fairness Doctrine in broadcast television. Look at the TV News landscape now. Don't let it happen here.

Conservatives need to split their party. These Conservatives that are actually reform/Canadian Alliance are a cancer in Canada

I moved to the US in 2015 and got a front row seat to a train wreck. When I moved back to Canada in 2019 I thought I'd find some semblance of sanity.

And then you read shit like this. There's really no words to describe how it makes me feel.
