You go to bed tonight and a wizard comes to you in your dreams and tells you from this night on, you will be transported to 1 world from any piece of media you know, every single time you go to sleep.

That world will be just as real as this one, as in if you die there, you die IRL, you will still need to eat and use the bathroom. Time passes by a .5x speed in both places while you're sleeping so for every 8 hours you sleep you will spend 16 hours in the other world. When you go to bed in either world you are transported to the other one.

I'd go to the world of The Culture. Fully automated luxury gay space communism, immortality, the works. The only problem is figuring out how to put my 'real world' self into a permanent coma so I can stay there.

Let them figure it out, those machines are quite smart. If they come up with something let me know, I might be interested.

The alternative reality Earth where Thomas Matthew Crooks aimed ever-so-slightly more to the right.

[–] Kookie215@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Thats actually a very wild concept to me because things would already be so different but also SO similar. Like all your friends and family would be the same but now some of them have shown you they're Nazi sympathizers. Also whats it like in 20 years? It would be 2 completely different realities but on the same timeline.

I am very interested in this episode of Black Mirror.

some of them have shown you they’re Nazi sympathizers

It's been known for years that the magats are Nazi sympathizers. And if you had any doubt, very senior figures have warned everybody very bluntly that Trump was a fascist.

So if any of your friends and family was a Trump sympathizer, you should have known long before the election that they were at least Nazi-adjacent.

Therefore the only difference between this reality and the one in which Trump is six feet under is that the American 4th Reich hasn't happened yet in the latter (but most likely will, because Trump is only a symptom of something deeper and profoundly disturbing in the American society).

Discworld, no contest.

The Culture. It has everything I always wanted.

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

That was my first and only thought.

[–] will_a113@lemm.ee 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Seriously. Fully-automated luxury gay space communism. I could do without most of those adjectives and still be living it large.

[–] reallyzen@lemmy.ml 4 points 20 hours ago

Absolutely. And when bored (which is likely to happen), I'd visit Moorcock's "Dancers at the end of times" universe, for the same carefree attitude, but in a much more spicy flavour

The Elder Scrolls. In the cities and towns it seems like a simple life if you're just a random NPC. Give me a break from worrying about bills and work.

[–] neon_nova@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 17 hours ago

That’s a good one. I may consider stardew valley for the simple life.

Do You Get To The Cloud District Very Often? Oh, What Am I Saying, Of Course You Don't.

I would become a Techno-Mage from the Hat Clan. And spread FOSS around the world.

Mars.

Need to figure out what the hell happened.

Care to expand on why?

Edit: I remembered what Planet Amazonia was like 3.5 seconds after making this comment, but now I feel weird deleting it.

I would take a risk and choose something crazy like The Walking Dead or Fallout. I'm trying to live out my Billy Badass dreams and if I die so be it.

[–] Ozymandias88@feddit.uk 7 points 22 hours ago

You had a good run, almost a year swapping to the world of the walking dead as you closed your eyes at night. But now you realise your luck is up. You fire off your last 5 rounds watching 5 shambling corpses hit the floor.

Putting the revolver to your head and pulling the trigger to end it, you hear an unfamiliar dull thunk instead of a click.

A split second later the rest of the dead reach you. They bite and tear and you feel the virus spread through you. An insatiable hunger for human flesh grows within you. You slowly loose consciousness the hunger growing.

In the back of your mind you're surprised as you wake back in your original world. Grogglily you roll over in bed to see your wife sleeping next to you. You watch in horror as the virus you've carried back to this world moves your body like a puppet, trapped in a small corner of your mind as you start a new zombie outbreak unable to control your own actions.

I considered going to the Wizarding World too, but what if I end up a Muggle? Also, I'm 34 I can't exactly enroll in Hogwarts at this point.

Clive Barker's Weave World.

Or the Blade Runner universe.
