Local mechanic has said the whole rod needs replacement

They said they’ll have to take out the engine to replace it (very labour intensive, unaffordable right now)

I’m also asking because this mechanic says they haven’t worked on this car before. A second opinion is always good.

Is this true?

Also is this the same common fault that these models have?

I’ve read that although Toyota has recognised it as a defective part it’s not dangerous?

If anyone with experience could help us out I’d be very grateful
