I remember watching the episode where Sheila gets a fecal transplant, and then like all the women in South Park go crazy over fecal transplants and want this one guys poop specifically. I honestly thought Fecal Transplants were made up for the sake of the joke and storyline.

Today I learn in my human physiology lecture that fecal transplants are real and is an effective treatment for certain infections in the large intestines.

Bro, I honestly thought South Park made that procedure up-

They are real but my question is will it work the same way if you just eat someone’s ass?

Ya you can actually make a lot of money selling your fecal sample if you meet super healthy criteria

When my daughter was 1 we donated some(a lot actually) of her poop to a friend who needed a fecal transplant.

Microbiome transplanation is a big, emerging field of medicine, with fecal transplants being the most studied.

The idea that fecal transplants without C. diff. could have a benefit on someone's well-being has some evidence in its favor too. It's also possible that, if we want to solve aging, fecal transplants will be a part of it, because the quality of one's microbiome tends to decrease as we age, which contributes to the effects of aging.

They're also exploring things like vaginal microbiome transplants to help people with chronic yeast infections. There's also some early research showing there might be value in skin microbiome stuff too.

The fact that it involves poop might seem so ridiculous, but having plenty of good bacteria is so important to human health.

Yeah, it can actually reverse some gut Flora problems. Funny enough if you take a vegan healthy fecal transplant and out it in a suffering person they kinda become a douche!

Did not know this was a real thing until right now

This is your mom’s ass

yep absolutely real and I know someone that had one and successfully got rid of their c diff obtained after a hospital stay (which is most common way to get it). Gross but makes total sense from biological perspective.

Fecal transplants are also done in veterinary settings too! They’re basically done in order to improve the bacterial biome in the intestinal tract :)

It could possibly be the wave of the future. It's working out great for mice and autism, apparently. https://www.autismparentingmagazine.com/fecal-transplant-autism/

[–] AbyssWankerArtorias@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yep, it's real. Some information you may wish you didn't have: another method of getting the transplant is orally. (They put it it in a capsule you swallow - you don't taste any of it).

[–] wellthoughtplot@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah it is. Apparently if you have gut troubles they can recommend it to introduce healthy bacteria into your gut. Pretty wild

The spice melange….

[–] Ma3rr0w@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

yes and i honestly cant wait for that shit to become more widely available and the whole gut thing be thoroughly explored scientifically.

so much bullshit discomfort in so many millions of people is linked to this. i'll gladly eat one of those shit pills that dissolves after it reaches your gut once a week to fix just 10% of these small issues

Everything started with Mr. Hankey. Let's just say those Hollywood types know how to party.

[–] Nikita_Mare@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I was the same with the Shake-Weight episode. I thought "oh this was clearly made up as a recurring gag in the episode" and then saw the real life ad about a year later

yeah in the news they just talked about a guy with a partial facial and eye transplant

crazy.

of course you realize in the future you will have some black market crazy people
