Another case of VAR interjecting to try and make a game more competitive.

I honestly don’t agree with that, it’s nasty but there have to be some mitigations for the fact he’s coming from behind. There has to be some allowances for legitimate football actions that result in things like that.

This is one of those letter of the law pitfalls. Clearly not intentional but could be dangerous none the less. Sometime when two players are going for a ball one will be late and deliver an unintentional stamp.

This basically happened to Marcelo. Completely innocent move but with horrible results. It's a red.

Owen Hargreaves thought this wasn’t a red “in a million years”. I worry what he saw, perhaps he should pay a visit to Specsavers.

If the letter of the law says this is a red, the letter of the law should be changed.

Unfortunate as he's shielding the ball and not really looking at where the player is, but probably a red by the laws of the game
