I’m starting a commercial painting business. My niche will be multifamily apartment community interior repaints between tenants. I don’t know how soon I’d pay a 1099 contractor or an actual employee, but if it’s just me for awhile, what sort of workers comp coverage do I need, if at all?

It's state specific, but typically owners can be exempt.

I carry workman’s comp

Many of my projects require it

When to companies I work for get their paper audit from their workman’s comp insurance company (normal)

Any contractors who don’t provide their own comp insurance are considered covered and by the company and assessed $$
