Watching Knicks vs Spurs right now. He's super solid and clear and makes good points about the game in front of him. Then I checked how old he is now and I realized he turned 90 a little over a month ago! Holy cow. I don't know any 90-year-olds who would be able to color commentate on a fast-paced basketball game. What do you think his secret is?

This is why I still have hope that either Joe Biden or Donald Trump can lead the nation after 2024.

nah j/k fuck them both for still running.

Now they're saying this is a shitpost

Peak and longevity

I love the Hubie appreciation thread. Hubie is the stark opposite or JVG, Doris and Mark Jackson. Dude is a basketball purist.

[–] mcknightrider@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Unlike another recently retired commentator....I can still hear the breathing and lip smacking...

[–] empowered676@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I love that guy

Like Alonzo Mourning said, it’s easier to stay in shape than get in shape. Hubie stays grinding at 90. Also doing something you enjoy/good at keeps you sharp.

[–] aaden08@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He's not, dude constantly gets names mixed up.

[–] chadowmantis@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don't think that any person alive or dead loves basketball more, or even as much as Hubie Brown

[–] 22dias@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

One of the best.

[–] Ok_Librarian2474@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Looked like he jumped right out of the mezzanine

This thread does my heart and soul good. I've seen folks in the past give Hubie a hard time in some threads and I couldn't understand it. He's one of the best commentators for any sport I've ever listened to. He elevates the game you're watching together, and his unabashed love for the game always comes through.

[–] tarheel343@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I had no idea he was that old, wow. When he was my age, Wilt Chamberlain had not yet entered the league. Crazy longevity.

Hubie is knowledgeable and very sharp. Still can't stand his commentary though. He clearly has a rooting interest in most games and actively cheers on his chosen team as if he's a fan. For 90 though, it's a pretty remarkable job that he's still working in TV.

Is this post for real? I can't stand Hubie. The only commentator worse than Hubie is Doris. He babbles on about how basketball was 75 years ago and doesn't contribute any valuable analysis. I much prefer JVG and MJ, which I know is a hot take, but I really can't stand Hubie.

I love Hubie and I think he's still better than most color guys but I've definitely noticed a decline for a few years now. I don't think he's terrible or that there's better alternatives so I say let this man call games until he dies.

Hmm, maybe I’ve read the wrong comments in the past, but I was under the impression that people didn’t like Hubie Brown. I’ve always loved listening to him since I was a kid in elementary when he would call games for the KG-Pierce Celtics.

[–] wkp2101@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He didn’t make good points he just repeated precooked talking points all game even when it wasn’t relevant. At one point he said the Knicks were 7 for 25 from three or something and then the next possession he said they were 10-20. I give him credit, but only because he is so old. He was awful when he was younger and hasn’t gotten any better.

[–] TenaciousDeer@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

One of the greats!

Only minor gripe is that he has something relevant to say after every play, but sometimes he could let the game breathe and let us ride the energy of the crowd and athletes instead

Best commentator in basketball!

[–] ajaxtheangel@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

stop gaslighting me hubie brown makes me want to die whenever I hear him

[–] slayersfunhouse@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I think its a bit of him having a great voice and the genetics of having a sharp mind, but most importantly he is a hall of fame coach that is extremally knowledgeable in the game and is able to broadcast it to the general public

[–] HumanTorchic@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I havent been watching games, but now I will cuz I miss Hubie

[–] RedAntNilo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

hes one of my favorites. i like how he coaches both teams throughout the game

[–] dukie5021@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

hubie is an absolute chad. legend.

[–] drblocktagon@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

hubie has been doing this for a long time. he probably doesnt even process half the things he says as narrative thoughts before he says them - just recognizes a familiar sequence of colors and shapes moving and spits out whatever he has learned to fall back on over the years.

[–] The_Lonely_Boner@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If you think Hubie Brown is a good commentator, you need to do some serious reevaluation

[–] Supper_Champion@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I fucking love Hubie. I wish he did more games that I get to watch. Love the way he talks about the game and breaks things down for viewers.

He also doesn't come across as one of those guys moaning about the old days or anything. He just straight up loves and knows the game in all forms.

[–] Putrid_Ad_2256@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Love for the game.

[–] jereezy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] SEJ46@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I personally don't like him.

[–] conwolf253@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

First of all, we know he’s going to give 8 to 10 stats a game, and give a very solid effort

[–] MostlyMellow123@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Almost old enough to be president or a senator!

[–] doublea94@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He's one of the best. He always has something good to say about every team and player no matter what.

[–] tsunamisurfer35@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I want to me like Hubie Brown, at 90 still doing what he loves.

I am only just half way there and doing what I tolerate.
